Wes Johnson leaves w/ strained left foot 10-06-2013
Wesley Johnson F LAC
Wes Johnson left Sunday's exhibition vs. the Nuggets with a strained left foot, and he will not return.

Mike Trudell on Twitter
We'll pass along updates as they become available. Johnson is in the mix at SG and SF this season, but both are reasonably deep positions once Kobe Bryant returns from his Achilles surgery. Johnson is little more than a 3-point specialist, even at 100 percent health.
C.J. McCollum (foot) has no date for surgery 10-06-2013
C.J. McCollum G POR
C.J. McCollum (fractured foot) doesn't yet have a date for surgery, and he's unsure how long he'll be sidelined.

Joe Freeman on Twitter
McColllum, who re-broke the same fifth metatarsal in his left foot which ended his season at Lehigh, addressed the media using crutches and wearing a protective boot. He will consult two specialists, one in California and one in Charlotte, before determining a course of action. We've pointed out that Chris Singleton had the same injury this offseason and will miss 6-8 weeks after surgery, a timetable which should be roughly applicable to McCollum.
Shaw says Kobe (Achilles) doubtful for opener 10-06-2013
Kobe Bryant G LAL
Brian Shaw doesn't expect Kobe Bryant (Achilles) to play in the Lakers' season opener.

Dave McMenamin on Twitter
Kobe hasn't yet returned from Germany, where he recently received platelet-rich plasma treatment. "I think he'll be out for the season opener," Shaw said. "I think that's realistic to say." There's still a chance Kobe will make a surprising debut on opening night, but the possibility becomes more remote with each day of the preseason that he misses.
Jordan Farmar out Sunday with calf cramps 10-06-2013
Jordan Farmar G LAC
Jordan Farmar won't play on Sunday due to calf cramps.

Dave McMenamin on Twitter
Mike D'Antoni already planned to rest him more in the second of back-to-back exhibitions, after Farmar logged 28 bench minutes in Saturday's win vs. Golden State. There's a good chance he'll be in uniform for Tuesday's matchup with Denver.
Greg Oden will not scrimmage on Sunday 10-06-2013
Greg Oden C MIA
Greg Oden (knees) will not be a part of Miami's scrimmage on Sunday.

Ira Winderman on Twitter
He still doesn't have a timetable to return and the team has restricted him from contact in practice. It's going to be a while before we see Oden get enough minutes to be a factor in standard fantasy leagues.
Michael Beasley not playing in scrimmage 10-06-2013
Michael Beasley F MIL
Michael Beasley will not participate in Sunday's scrimmage.

Ira Winderman on Twitter
Greg Oden, Chris Andersen, Roger Mason Jr. and Udonis Haslem will also sit this one out. There have been no reasons given for their absences, but some of them are obvious. We'll update once the specifics are available.
Woodson likes the Bargnani-Anthony combo 10-06-2013
Andrea Bargnani C BKN
Mike Woodson said the forward combination of Andrea Bargnani and Carmelo Anthony is "looking good."

"It's looking good," Woodson said. "I don't know who's going to start yet. But I like the makeup of Andrea and Melo on the floor at the same time with Tyson [Chandler]." Amare Stoudemire could miss time with his knee issues, so Bargnani could see the majority of the minutes at power forward. He was horrible last year, so we're still a little apprehensive to target him in drafts.
Grizzlies waive Josh Akognon on Sunday 10-06-2013
Josh Akognon G MEM
Grizzlies waive G Josh Akognon.

Chris Herrington on Twitter
Dallas let him go after he led their team in points per game in summer league, and reportedly wanted to bring him back after he pasted through waivers in July. The Mavs do have plenty of depth in the backcourt, but there are some other teams with guard deficiencies that may want to give Akognon a shot at their camp.
Shelden Williams signs to play in China 10-06-2013
Shelden Williams F
Shelden Williams signed a deal to play with Tianjin in China for next year.

Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter
He played overseas last year after playing six seasons in the NBA. Williams' NBA career could be over at age 29, but at least he's married to reigning WNBA MVP Candace Parker.
Tyler Hansbrough (hamstring) back at practice 10-06-2013
Tyler Hansbrough F CHA
Tyler Hansbrough (hamstring) practiced Sunday and is expected to play in Monday's game in Boston.

Raptors MR on Twitter
He didn't scrimmage on Saturday with his tight hammy, so his muscle strain was just a minor issue. Hansbrough will be the first big off the bench for the Raptors and should easily play more than his 16.9 minutes per game from last season.
Dante Cunningham out with flu-like symptoms 10-06-2013
Dante Cunningham F NO
Dante Cunningham did not practice on Sunday due to flu-like symptoms.

Jerry Zgoda on Twitter
The Wolves used their team option on him over the summer and he'll give them some depth at power forward. With Derrick Williams expected to play more small forward because of Chase Budinger's knee surgery, Cunningham serves as Kevin Love's backup. He doesn't have value in standard leagues, though.
Danilo Gallinari (knee) still not running yet 10-06-2013
Danilo Gallinari F DEN
Danilo Gallinari (knee) has not started running yet.

Chris Dempsey on Twitter
He hoped to be running this week, and he still doesn't know when he'll be able to do so. Gallinari also said he was targeting a late-November return, so not hitting this step of his rehab process figures to put a dent in that timetable. Wilson Chandler (hamstring) figures to put up two months of solid production while the Italian is out.
Anderson looks good in 76ers preseason debut 10-06-2013
James Anderson G SAC
James Anderson scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go with seven boards, two assists, two steals and two 3-pointers in 23 minutes on Sunday. He looked comfortable out there and was able to get to the basket. Philly doesn't have any starting-caliber depth behind Anderson and Evan Turner on the wing, so the starting shooting guard spot is Anderson's to lose. He hasn't been productive in his NBA career, but hasn't been on a team as bad as the Sixers either. They'll open up their season against the Heat on October 30.
Michael Carter-Williams takes care of ball 10-06-2013
Michael Carter-Williams G CHI
Michael Carter-Williams took care of the ball on Sunday with no turnovers, handing out five assists to go with three points and three steals in 23 minutes. He shot 1-of-5 from the field, so this line was more or less as advertised for the rookie. Tony Wroten has been one of Brett Brown's favorites in camp, and wasn't too shabby with 16 points, two assists, three steals and five fouls in 24 minutes. Carter-Williams looked hesitant more often than not, but we'll give him a pass since it was his first preseason game. Although, his poor summer league isn't going to help him get on Brown's good side. MCW is still worth a pick late in drafts for now.
Evan Turner gets aggressive in preseason 10-06-2013
Evan Turner G POR
Evan Turner made 10-of-12 from the line and 7-of-15 from the field for 25 points in Sunday's win over Bilbao Basket, adding five boards, three boards, one steal, one 3-pointer and five turnovers. He was in control of the offense, but the Sixers really couldn't find their rhythm as they squeaked out a 106-104 win. They turned the ball over 26 times in this game, but it is preseason. Turner looks to be a main contributor with the team, but his game doesn't translate to fantasy very well, so it's tough to expect an full-fledged breakout.
John Jenkins to miss time with back spasms 10-06-2013
John Jenkins G PHO
John Jenkins is suffering from back spasms and will not make the trip for two preseason games.

Chris Vivlamore on Twitter
He missed two months with a back injury and was declared healthy on September 30, so this appears to be an aggravation. Jenkins has reportedly been bumped to the bench in favor of starting wings Kyle Korver and DeMarre Carroll, so he's not worth targeting in standard leagues.
Derrick Rose has no knee soreness after debut 10-06-2013
Derrick Rose G NY
Derrick Rose reported no soreness in his surgically-repaired knee after scoring 13 points in 21 minutes on Saturday.

Nick Friedell on Twitter
Rose has reportedly increased his vertical leap by five inches (from 37" to 42") and he's worked hard on his shooting range during the 17 months since he tore his ACL. He's had a full training camp and isn't limited during the preseason, so there are no warning flags for him heading into the regular season.
Kevin Love looks great, works on 3-point shot 10-06-2013
Kevin Love F CLE
Kevin Love is working daily on his 3-point shooting and he's reportedly looked great in practices.
"Just watching Kevin shoot this year compared to after he came back from the hand, he's like he was two years ago," Rick Adelman said. Love shot 21.7 percent from downtown while recovering from his hand injury last season, but owners can expect numbers closer to his stellar 2011-12 campaign, when he averaged 26.0 points, 1.9 threes (37.2 percent from downtown), 13.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks.
Bogut, O'Neal may be paired for stretches 10-06-2013
Jermaine O'Neal C GS
Mark Jackson said that he will pair Andrew Bogut and Jermaine O'Neal at times this season.

Mercury News
"Both of those guys are big-time defenders," Jackson said. "Jermaine gives us a post presence. They're great guys to set screens and create openings." Though interesting, and a move away from the small-ball lineups of past years, the Bogut/O'Neal frontcourt won't be common often enough to have a substantial fantasy impact.
Jose Calderon (hamstring) doubtful for Sunday 10-06-2013
Jose Calderon G LAL
Jose Calderon (hamstring) is doubtful to play on Sunday.

Earl K. Sneed on Twitter
He was expected to be at full strength in time for the Mavericks' preseason opener, but Rick Carlisle seems inclined to rest him a bit longer. Keeping the Mavericks' veteran PG healthy is far more crucial than having him play 20 minutes in an exhibition game.
Lawson, Nate Robinson may be paired in spurts 10-06-2013
Ty Lawson G SAC
Brian Shaw may use Ty Lawson and Nate Robinson together "for certain stretches" this season, though he's worried about defensive mismatches.
"Will they give up some advantages on defense? Yes, but it could be outweighed by what they'll do with the ball," Shaw said. There are too many possible backcourt combinations for Lawson-Robinson to become a major factor -- Randy Foye is the favorite to start at SG, Andre Miller will earn his minutes, and guys like Evan Fournier and Jordan Hamilton are lurking in the background.
Wilson Chandler to have major role with DEN 10-06-2013
Wilson Chandler F DEN
Wilson Chandler will likely slide over to the shooting guard position to remain with the starting unit when Danilo Gallinari (knee) returns.

Denver Post
"Wilson, to me, still hasn't hit his ceiling yet," Brian Shaw said. "I've been very, very impressed ... I think he can be real versatile for us." The entire Nuggets organization have been high on Chandler this offseason, and Shaw has made it clear that he intends to play Wilson at the two spot when Danilo Gallinari (knee) returns. Shaw is a defensive oriented coach, and the size and defensive prowess that Chandler offers could lead to major minutes for the swingman.
Steve Nash to play about 20 minutes Sunday 10-06-2013
Steve Nash G LAL
Coach Mike D'Antoni said Pau Gasol (knees) and Steve Nash (hamstring) are likely to play 20 or so minutes in L.A.'s second game in a back-to-back preseason opener.

Ramona Shelburne on Twitter
The Lakers are playing it safe with their aging point guard and power forward. This is preseason, so we wouldn't read much into the numbers. Although Nash's age, declining play, and an injury plagued season last year (50 games played) makes him a risky pick.
Trevor Booker cleared for non-contact drills 10-06-2013
Trevor Booker F BKN
Trevor Booker (knee) has been cleared for non-contact drills, but is still not likely to play in the Wizards' preseason opener vs. the Nets.

Washington Post
Booker could see additional minutes with the injury to Emeka Okafor (herniated C4 disk in neck), but he himself needs to get healthy to receive those minutes. If Booker is able to step on the floor, he is likely be in line for 24-30 minutes a night, and he has the potential sustain some late round value.
Andre Iguodala impressive in preseason opener 10-06-2013
Andre Iguodala G GS
Andre Iguodala put up 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, going 3-of-3 from the FT line, with three rebounds, one assist, and two steals in 21 minutes of action.
This is the type of versatile line we are used to seeing from Iguodala, and although it was only a preseason game, he's capable of doing this during the regular season. Mark Jackson said Andrew Bogut, David Lee, and Steph Curry are all locks for their starting job. This leaves Harrison Barnes, Andre Iguodala, and Klay Thompson vying for the final two spots, but the true battle for who will start is between Klay and Barnes.
Chris Kaman likely to sit vs. Denver 10-06-2013
Chris Kaman C POR
Chris Kaman will likely sit out Sunday's game vs. Denver, the second game of L.A's back-to-back set to open the preseason.
"Who does back-to-backs in preseason?" said Kaman. "That's the [stupidest] thing I've ever heard." Kaman has only played a full 82-game season once in his career and that was in 2003, so it makes sense that the oft-injured big man will be taking it easy in the preseason. Kaman will be battling Jordan Hill for a starting spot in the Lakers rotation. If he is able to secure a starting position, he has the potential to have some fantasy relevance. Target him at the end of your drafts.
Greg Stiemsma struggles in Pelicans debut 10-06-2013
Greg Stiemsma C ORL
Greg Stiemsma was scoreless and failed to grab any rebounds in 10 minutes vs. Dwight Howard and the Rockets on Saturday. Stiemsma started at center for his new team but didn't last long, finishing with more fouls (three) than all of his other stats combined (one assist, one block). Even if he hangs onto the starting gig, he's only useful as a last-ditch source of blocks.
Tyreke Evans (ankle) hopes to play in opener 10-06-2013
Tyreke Evans G NO
Tyreke Evans (ankle) didn't sound overly concerned about his ankle injury after Saturday's game, but he's still awaiting MRI results.

New Orleans Times-Picayune
"I'll hopefully be ready for sure before the first game of the season," Evans said. "I just got to get treatment and take care of my foot and I'll be ready to go." His optimism is encouraging but we'll reserve judgment until his test results are announced.
Andrew Bogut looks good in preseason opener 10-06-2013
Andrew Bogut C DAL
Andrew Bogut pulled down 12 rebounds in just 17 minutes in the Warriors' first preseason game vs. the Lakers. Bogut has played in just 44 games over the past two seasons, but his play on Saturday backed up this summer's glowing reports about his health. If you can deal with the headache of missed games and lousy FT percentages, Bogut is worth targeting in the late rounds of your draft as a rebounding and shot blocking specialist.
Danny Granger (knee) fine after playing Bulls 10-06-2013
Danny Granger F DET
Danny Granger (knee) felt fine after playing 29 minutes off the Pacers' bench on Saturday.

1070 The Fan
He didn't play very well, finishing with six points and zero rebounds, but that's unimportant compared to his confidence in his knee. "My second wind didn't kick in the first half like it usually does," he said, "but it was good to get that one under my belt. Baby steps." Frank Vogel has said that Granger will start at SG once he's up to speed, which would bump Lance Stephenson to a reserve role.
Lavoy Allen will sit in preseason opener 10-06-2013
Lavoy Allen F IND
Lavoy Allen (knee) will not play in the Sixers preseason opener, but he's expected to play Tuesday vs. OKC.
This is just a precautionary move to let the big man rest his knees. "We are just trying to be smart," coach Brett Brown said Sunday morning. "As long as we get one game out of him [during the two-game European trip], give little bit more time and try to let him play against OK City."
Derrick Rose increased his vertical to 42 10-06-2013
Derrick Rose G NY
Derrick Rose stated after his first game back from knee surgery that his vertical jump has increased from 37" (pre-surgery) to 42".

Alex Kennedy on Twitter
Rose looked great in his long awaited return to the court. Now that we've seen him play, the hype machine will be going strong for Rose. He attacked the rim fearlessly, and said after the game, "I'm not slowing down, I don't care who's in the hole. If they're going to foul me, I'm going to get up and keep going hard at them."
Nicolas Batum 'annoyed' by lower back pain 10-06-2013
Nicolas Batum G CHA
Nicolas Batum has lower back pain but it's "not enough to miss time, just annoying," according to Chris Haynes.

Chris Haynes on Twitter
Batum was elbowed and it doesn't sound like an injury which will linger or become aggravated. Portland's resident 5x5 threat is coming off a championship run with France during EuroBasket 2013, and he's primed for a big year.
Klay Thompson scores 26 points off bench 10-06-2013
Klay Thompson G GS
Klay Thompson scored 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting off the Warriors' bench on Saturday, while starter Harrison Barnes added 10 points on 3-of-14 shooting with four turnovers.

San Francisco Chronicle
Mark Jackson was crystal clear before the game, saying, "Truthfully, there is zero to read into [Saturday's starting lineup]." He also considered starting Thompson alongside Barnes or Andre Iguodala, but said that at the end of the day "all of those guys are going to play a lot."
Lakers win, Xavier Henry has game-high 29 pts 10-06-2013
Xavier Henry SF MIL
The Lakers won Saturday's exhibition behind Xavier Henry's game-high 29 points, which included a half-court heave just before halftime. Henry has 14 double-digit scoring games in three NBA seasons, with career marks of 40.3 percent from the field, 28.9 percent from deep, and 62.4 percent from the FT line. Nick Young scored 17 points on Saturday and is a more sustainable source of scoring and 3-pointers, though even he must contend with Jodie Meeks, Wes Johnson and the eventual return of Kobe Bryant.
