|Lamb closing the gap on Jackson for minutes?||08-18-2013|
|Reggie Jackson G DET|
Reggie Jackson and Jeremy Lamb could both help fill the role as the sixth man for the Thunder this season.
|Before Orlando Summer League, the feeling around the team was that Jackson would pick up most of the minutes as the sixth man. However, it appears that Lamb may have closed the gap with his eye-catching July. Both players offer enough upside to be worth monitoring in all leagues, but we'll give Jackson the edge for now as a better late-round pick.|
|Paul George emphasizing conditioning||08-18-2013|
|Paul George G IND|
Paul George has put added emphasis on conditioning this offseason.
Scott Agness on Twitter
|He's using this offseason to prepare to be the go-to guy and he's earned that title thanks to one of the most impressive postseasons of any player as Indiana took Miami to a Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Finals. Outside of George playing more shooting guard this upcoming season, there should be minimal concern about Danny Granger hurting George's numbers, which makes him a player to target in the middle of the first round in drafts.|
|The Pistons won't be signing Jason Collins||08-18-2013|
|Jason Collins C BKN|
The Pistons will not be signing unrestricted free agent Jason Collins.
|It's been fairly quiet on the Collins front and the Pistons and Nets have really been the only two teams linked to him. The Nets are arguably the deepest team in the NBA, so it's hard to imagine they'd have room for him on their team, too.|
|DeJuan Blair takes a shot at the Spurs||08-18-2013|
|DeJuan Blair F WAS|
DeJuan Blair said that he thinks the Spurs would have beat the Heat in the NBA Finals had he played more.
Dallas Morning News
|"Of course I want to get back. I don't think [the Spurs] would have came up short if I would've played but, hey, keep that out there," Blair said. It was a bumpy finish for Blair in San Antonio and he'll get a new start in Dallas. He has no fantasy value.|
|Chris Copeland (knee) walking and rehabbing||08-18-2013|
|Chris Copeland F MIL|
Chris Copeland (knee) is already walking around and rehabbing from his surgery on August 2.
Jared Zwerling on Twitter
|It was just a knee scope for Cope and his timetable of 6-8 weeks suggests that he'll be ready for camp at the end of September. Copeland is heading to Los Angles to work on team building with his new teammates. He'll come off the bench and isn't expected to see a major role while the Pacers are near 100 percent health.|
|Deron Williams organizes players-only workout||08-18-2013|
|Deron Williams G DAL|
Deron Williams has organized players-only workouts in California this offseason.
Stefan Bondy on Sulia
|Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett will attend and the only players that are not expected be there are Reggie Evans, Andrei Kirilenko, Tornike Shengelia and Mirza Teletovic. Despite the addition of KG and Pierce, Deron is still taking a leadership role with the team. The Nets have a very deep team this year and it's going to be a tall order for Jason Kidd to get a rotation that works best.|
|Raymond Felton has lost 15 pounds this summer||08-18-2013|
|Raymond Felton G DAL|
Raymond Felton said he has lost 15 pounds since the regular season.
Ian Begley on Twitter
|This is the second offseason in a row in which he's lost weight. In October of last year, he said he lost 20 pounds, so it's nice to see he's trying to keep himself in shape. The two previous seasons, Felton's weight was an issue and even his former coach, Nate McMillan, thought he was overweight. His role should be safe even with the Knicks picking up Beno Udrih at the minimum earlier this month.|
|Varnado's agent says he will report to Heat||08-18-2013|
|Jarvis Varnado F PHI|
The agent for F Jarvis Varnado says his client is not going to play in Italy and will report for training camp for the Heat.
South Florida Sun-Sentinel
|His contract will become partially guaranteed on opening night and all indications are that he plans on playing for the Heat this season, despite being contacted by several European teams. "Fact is, Jarvis is under contract with the Heat," agent Mitch Frankel said. "Jarvis hasn't accepted any offer from any team in Europe and Jarvis plans on playing for the Heat next year." He's not going to see many minutes if that's the case, but he already has one championship ring and could be in line for another one if all goes well in Miami.|
|Report: Boston needs a coach for Rondo||08-18-2013|
|Rajon Rondo G SAC|
Gary Washburn is reporting that the Celtics, according to a source close to the team, "desperately" needs an assistant coach who can relate to Rondo.
Gary Washburn on Twitter
|Rondo is apparently already having some trust issues now that Doc Rivers is gone, although it's unclear if he's upset by the arrival of Brad Stevens or not. In any case, it does make sense that the C's would be looking for a coach to mentor Rondo, so don't be surprised if they add a former player to the staff specifically for that purpose. Rondo's expected to miss the early part of the season as he recovers from knee surgery, and probably isn't thrilled to be playing with a new lineup in a serious rebuilding situation.|
|Heat could target veteran FA addition||08-18-2013|
|Antawn Jamison F ATL|
Heat insider Ira Winderman says that Pat Riley has talked about wanting to "cannibalize the free-agent market in August and September."
|Among those that Winderman mentions as possible targets for Miami are Antawn Jamison, Lamar Odom, DeShawn Stevenson and Ronnie Brewer. The Heat roster is currently at 13 players, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see a veteran take the minimum to try and win a title.|
|Tyler Honeycutt signs with Israeli team||08-18-2013|
|Tyler Honeycutt F HOU|
Tyler Honeycutt signed a contract with Ironi Nes Ziona of Israel.
Sportando on Twitter
|Over two seasons he appeared in 24 games between the Rockets and Kings. He will now chase his dream overseas.|
|Nolan Smith signs with Croatian team||08-18-2013|
|Nolan Smith G POR|
Former Celtics guard Nolan Smith signed with Cedevita Zagreb of Croatia.
|The Duke product was expected to join the Celtics for training camp, but that is no longer happening. Smith injured his calf in Orlando Summer League and is still a few weeks away from a full recovery.|
|Nash, Gasol could face playing-time limits||08-18-2013|
|Pau Gasol F CHI|
Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said that Steve Nash (leg) and Pau Gasol (knee) could have playing-time restrictions for the upcoming season.
Los Angeles Times
|"We'll see how the season goes but maybe work with them to keep their minutes down to where it's manageable and keep them OK," D'Antoni said. The health of Nash and Gasol is crucial to the Lakers' success, so the idea of keeping them fresh isn't all that surprising. They were already risky fantasy picks due to injury and a possibility of reduced minutes adds to concerns.|
|Ben McLemore wants to be an 'alpha dog'||08-18-2013|
|Ben McLemore G SAC|
Ben McLemore said his goals for his first season with the Kings include to "show everybody [he] could be the alpha dog and win that Rookie of the Year."
|"I feel I come in with a chip on my shoulder," said the Kansas product, acknowledging his slide in the draft. While his aspirations are clear, McLemore's weak summer league performance (33 percent shooting and 18 turnovers) suggests that there is a still a learning curve to overcome before he can become a team's go-to guy. Still, he figures to get a chance to start at shooting guard this season and is one of the safest rookies for fantasy owners to draft.|
|Jarvis Varnado near deal with Italian team||08-18-2013|
|Jarvis Varnado F PHI|
Jarvis Varnado is close to signing with Sidigas Avellino of Serie A in Italy.
|It would be the big man's second tour of duty in Italy. Varnado's NBA career has been brief, totaling 16 games between the Heat and Celtics. A return to Miami was in doubt once the team signed Greg Oden.|
