Marcin Gortat has been cleared to play 08-16-2013
Marcin Gortat C WAS
Marcin Gortat (foot) was cleared to play for the Polish national team by the Suns team doctors.

Arizona Republic
The news of Gortat being able to rejoin the team broke earlier this week, but the specifics about the Suns being involved to check out their starting center is worth mentioning. He should be ready for camp and is on the short list of NBA starters that could be traded this season.
Alex Len (ankle) says he'll be ready for camp 08-16-2013
Alex Len C PHO
Alex Len said that he is pain-free and he will be ready for training camp.

Arizona Republic
"I've got two more weeks of rehab and then I'll be back about 85-90 percent," Len said. "I'll be back for training camp and be ready for the season. The ankle's feeling great. I have no pain." He's had surgery on both ankles this offseason and has been out of a walking boot for over one week. The rookie lost 10 pounds after surgery, but he has gained it back this summer. The Suns will likely take it easy on Len, so don't expect his career to get off to a fast start while Marcin Gortat is still around.
Cole Aldrich working out for teams 08-16-2013
Cole Aldrich C MIN
Cole Aldrich is in the processs of working out for NBA teams.

Jared Zwerling on Twitter
The well is beginning to dry up for free agent big men and Aldrich's time to sign a deal should be near. He won't be more than an end-of-the-bench big in almost any situation, so there's no need to monitor him for fantasy purposes.
Rockets to experiment w/ Dwight Howard at PF 08-16-2013
Omer Asik C NO
GM Daryl Morey said the team plans on experimenting with Dwight Howard at power forward and Omer Asik at center during training camp.

Daryl Morey on Reddit
The transcript to Morey's Reddit from Friday afternoon is linked below. He admits that Asik wants to be a starter, but insists last year's breakout big man wants to win no matter what. Regardless, it's really hard to see Howard and Asik playing together as neither one can guard a stretch-four and both have to play within seven feet of the hoop offensively. It's not a lineup coach Kevin McHale could use for more than a few minutes at a time, and it would have to be against very specific opponents.
Danny Granger reportedly feeling good 08-16-2013
Danny Granger F DET
The Indy Star "keeps hearing" positive reports about Danny Granger's (knee) rehab.

Indianapolis Star
The rumor is that Granger will be ready for Opening Night. That might be true, but sustaining health and effectiveness on the court has been his issue of late. Granger sat out until February last year, played in five straight games and then went back on the shelf for the remainder. His health will be something to monitor closely during training camp.
Dwyane Wade to get back on court soon 08-16-2013
Dwyane Wade G CHI
Dwyane Wade (knees) plans to do his first basketball-related activities since the Finals this weekend.

After the Heat won their second straight title, Wade rested his balky knees. Then, a month ago, he underwent OssaTron shock treatment. Now he begins the process of getting ready for the season. "I won't be ready for opening night when training camp starts," Wade said. "But I'll be ready for opening night when opening night gets here." The problem for head-to-head owners is that Wade often rests late in the year to get ready for the playoffs. He sat out nine of Miami's final 14 games last season and eight of the final 16 in 2011-12.
Mickael Pietrus to get a look in September 08-16-2013
Mickael Pietrus G TOR
The player rep for free agent G/F Mickael Pietrus says he has a workout scheduled with two undisclosed NBA teams in September.

Pietrus, 31, has previously been linked to the Knicks. His agent claims his client's troublesome knee is back to 100 percent and he's working out in France. Pietrus will have to prove it in workouts to get a look.
Jared Sullinger projected as starter 08-16-2013
Jared Sullinger C TOR
CSN New England projects Jared Sullinger as the Celtics' starting power forward.

CSN New England
Sullinger is going to have to earn it. Brandon Bass, Kris Humphries, Kelly Olynyk and Gerald Wallace are all capable of playing power forward. In the end, both of the Celtics' big man spots are likely to be filled by a committee. Starting or not, we'd expect something around 25 minutes a night for Sully.
Rajon Rondo to miss first month of season? 08-16-2013
Rajon Rondo G CHI
CSN New England expects Rajon Rondo (knee) to miss the first month of the regular season.

CSN New England
Note that this is the educated opinion of top beat writer A. Sherrod Blakely, not a medical report or source from the team. Still, Rondo sitting out the first month is a very real possibility. He tore his ACL on January 25 and we know the injury typically takes at least nine months to heal. In the case of Derrick Rose, it took more than a full year. With the Celtics in all-out rebuilding mode, they'll have no incentive to rush Rondo back. Blakely considers Phil Pressey the likely starter at point guard for the first month.
Bucks near four-year, $44M deal with Sanders 08-16-2013
Larry Sanders F MIL
The Bucks are nearing completion on a four-year, $44 million contract extension with Larry Sanders.

Yahoo Sports
Sanders didn't become a full-time player until last season. But he's a unique 6-foot-11 athlete, just 24 years old and is already one of the game's premier interior defenders. Despite playing just 27.3 minutes a night in 2012-13, Sanders averaged 9.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.8 blocks while shooting 50.6 percent from the field. It's good value for the Bucks -- especially considering Nikola Pekovic just squeezed a five-year, $60 million deal plus incentives out of the Wolves.
Kevin Garnett won't play in any back-to-backs 08-16-2013
Kevin Garnett PF MIN
Coach Jason Kidd said that Kevin Garnett probably won't play in any back-to-backs this season.

Hamed Haddadi meeting with Knicks Friday 08-16-2013
Hamed Haddadi C PHO
Free agent C Hamed Haddadi is meeting with the Knicks Friday.

Frank Isola on Twitter
Haddadi got the first significant playing time of his career last season, averaging 13.8 minutes a night in 17 late-season appearances for the Suns. He responded with averages of 4.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. The Knicks can use a minimum contract as deep insurance behind starting center Tyson Chandler.
Wolves closed deal by adding fifth year 08-16-2013
Nikola Pekovic C MIN
Source tell ESPN that the Wolves clinched the Nikola Pekovic deal by adding a guaranteed fifth year.

Pekovic stood his ground, declining to sign a four-year, $48 million offer for weeks. The Wolves finally caved, adding a fifth year to a deal that totals $60 million. They even gave Pek another $8 million in incentives. It's a ton of coin for a player with career-highs of 16.3 points, 8.8 boards and 0.8 blocks, but big men are expensive in the NBA. Pekovic still has room to get better as he's only 27 and has been in the league just three years.
Donte Greene's contract isn't guaranteed 08-16-2013
Donte Greene F BOS
Donte Greene's $1 million contract for this season is non-guaranteed.

ESPN Boston
The Celtics are slightly over the luxury tax line right now. If they cut Greene, they'll get under the tax. Considering the logjam at the 3/4 spots (Jeff Green, Gerald Wallace, Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger, Kris Humphries), it would be a surprise if Greene sticks.
Kobe suggests Dwight doesn't know how to win 08-16-2013
Dwight Howard C ATL
When asked about Dwight Howard, Kobe Bryant said, "we have different perspectives on what it takes to win."

ESPN Los Angeles
Otto Porter will not join camp in Vegas 08-16-2013
Otto Porter F WAS
Otto Porter (hamstring) backed out of Tim Grgurich's annual NBA skills camp in Las Vegas this month.

CSN Washington
He didn't have a prosperous trip to Las Vegas in summer league last month, suffering two hamstring strains. It's unclear if the hamstring issues were a factor in Porter's decision to not join the camp, though. He should be ready to go for training camp.
Paul George training to be the go-to guy 08-16-2013
Paul George F IND
Paul George said that he's been training to be the go-to guy this summer.

Indianapolis Star
"This whole summer, I really trained being the go-to guy and the lead guy for our team," George said. "Last year, we still had Danny [Granger] and did not know the results [of his injury] coming into the year. I had a role that I had kind of prepared for and trained for. This year, it was more about training to be the No. 1 guy and lead this team." Anyone that watched George in the postseason shouldn't be surprised that he's going to be the main man. He has a full arsenal of ways to score and should be off the board in the middle of the first round of fantasy drafts.
Brett Brown has been a fan of Thaddeus Young 08-16-2013
Thaddeus Young F IND
Sixers head coach Brett Brown said he's "always been a fan" of Thaddeus Young.

Philadelphia Inquirer
"I've always been a fan of Thaddeus," Brown said. "I see in Evan [Turner] just that potential. You see the versatility in Spencer [Hawes]. You pay attention to Michael Carter-Williams and what he did in college." The Sixers arguably have the least amount of depth in the NBA, so these aforementioned players will have some serious opportunity to put up some numbers. In particular, Young could be in for a big season with the Sixers.
Monta Ellis says he was unhappy in Milwaukee 08-16-2013
Monta Ellis G IND
Monta Ellis said that he was "unhappy" in Milwaukee in a press conference on Thursday.

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel
"When you're in a place where you're unhappy, it's very hard to perform to your best ability," Ellis said. "So this is a new beginning, a new fresh start, better organization, better teammates." Apparently, Monta's lack of shyness on the court translates to his talk off the court. He said he's going to be Dirk Nowitzki's "sidekick" and could get back to his days of scoring 25 points per game.
Dwight thinks Rockets can make an impact 08-16-2013
Dwight Howard C ATL
Dwight Howard said that he and James Harden have an opportunity to make an impact for the next "four or five years."

Mark Berman on Twitter
"We have an opportunity four or five years to really make an impact in this league together as a duo," Howard said. The chemistry of the Rockets is one of the more interesting stories of the offseason. They led the NBA in pace last season and made the playoffs as the youngest team in the NBA. Harden also attacks the rim at will, so that will be another interesting aspect of the Rockets this upcoming season.
Kobe Bryant still unsure of status for opener 08-16-2013
Kobe Bryant G LAL
Kobe Bryant said he's still unsure of his status for the 2013-14 opener in an interview on Thursday night.

USA Today
There has been some optimism from the Lakers and there's even been some talk of him suiting up for the preseason. Bryant added his recovery has been aided by a neuro-muscular scientist, Barrence Baytos, and called him a "genius." A couple other interesting quotes from his charity event include "people don't understand how obsessed I am with winning" and that he said "oh yeah" when asked about being a Laker for life.
Devin Harris in a walking boot on Thursday 08-16-2013
Devin Harris G DAL
Devin Harris was in a walking boot during Thursday's press conference.

Dallas Morning News
Head coach Rick Carlisle said he's not really expecting him to be ready to go until "December or January," so the Mavs aren't going to be rushing their newly-signed guard. Harris has dealt with a slew of injuries and he's sidelined far too often to be worth taking in standard drafts this season.
Ryan Kelly still dealing with foot issues 08-16-2013
Ryan Kelly F ATL
Ryan Kelly is still dealing with a foot injury and has started working on his dribbling and shooting.

Eric Pincus on Twitter
He was taken with the 48th pick in the draft and doesn't project to see many minutes with the Lakers. Kelly has legitimate NBA range, but he'll likely have to develop other areas of his game this year.
Dwyane Wade gets treatment to both knees 08-16-2013
Dwyane Wade G CHI
Updating a previous item, Dwyane Wade has tendinitis in both knees and treated each knee with Ossatron shock treatment.

Brian Windhorst on Twitter
He had the shock treatment back in 2008, which is somewhat interesting because in 2008-09, his 79-game season was a career high. On the other hand, Wade has put a lot of miles on the tires in his career and he's been dealing with knee issues since March. If he slides in draft, the former Finals MVP could turn into a value pick. He expects to be ready for the opener.
