Clips preparing to offer deal to Lamar Odom 08-15-2013
Lamar Odom F NY
The Clippers are waiting for an answer from Lamar Odom on a contract agreement.

Marc Spears on Twitter
The team is reportedly ready to offer him $1.4 million and just need Odom to agree to the terms. Doc Rivers is believed to be interested in bringing Odom on because he's a great teammate. If Odom decides to pass -- and that seems doubtful -- Antawn Jamison appears to be the backup choice.
Lakers hopeful to bring back Pau Gasol 08-15-2013
Pau Gasol C SA
Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said he hopes that the Lakers have enough flexibility to have Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol.

"We're in a cycle," Kupchak said. "We're hopeful that within a year from now, we'll have enough flexibility. We're hopeful that Pau and Kobe can continue to play and we'll have options to rebuild the team." He'll get $19.2 million this year, then he'll be an unrestricted free agent next summer. The Lakers are hoping that Kobe will take a bit of a pay cut, which will help them attract other free agents.
Dwyane Wade had shock treatment on knee 08-15-2013
Dwyane Wade G CHI
Dwyane Wade said he underwent Ossatron shock treatment on his knee a month ago.

Ira Winderman on Twitter
He reportedly just got back on the court recently. Wade had to endure knee pain for most of the second half of the season as well as on the Heat's championship run. It sounds like his knee may never be what it used to be and the Heat are believed to be constructing a plan to manage Wade. Even though he had a tremendous year as the leader among guards in field goal percentage, he'll be a very risky fantasy pick.
DeShaun Thomas reaches deal with French team 08-15-2013
Deshaun Thomas F SA
DeShaun Thomas has agreed to a contract to play for a team in Paris.

Columbus Dispatch
Thomas was expected to sign El Estudiantes in Spain, but unexpectedly changed his mind. Thomas, who was the 58th pick in June's draft, had a productive summer league but would've had difficulty cracking the Spurs' rotation. This way Thomas will gain experience while the Spurs retain his NBA rights.
Marcin Gortat to rejoin Polish team on Sunday 08-15-2013
Marcin Gortat C WAS
Marcin Gortat (foot) will rejoin the Polish national team Sunday.
Gortat left the club 10 days ago to return to the states and get treatment on his ailing right foot. He's expected to play for Poland in three-game warmup slate ahead of September's Eurobasket tournament. Gortat is projected to start at center for the Suns this season, but a nagging foot injury and the presence of first-round pick Alex Len makes things a bit cloudier.
Kupchak says Steve Nash close to 100 percent 08-15-2013
Steve Nash G LAL
Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak says Steve Nash is very close to being 100 percent but isn't "as young as he once was."

Los Angeles Times
Nash dealt with a whole host of issues last season stemming from the fibula fracture he sustained in November. As of late July, the 39-year old was still dealing with some nerve issues as an aftereffect of the injury. While it sounds like he should be healthy by the time camp opens, Nash's chances of staying healthy for a whole season are likely diminished. We won't bet against a bounce-back season, but we advise caution when approaching him in drafts this year.
Kupchak continues optimism about Kobe deal 08-15-2013
Kobe Bryant G LAL
GM Mitch Kupchak said he doesn't see any reason why Kobe Bryant wouldn't be a Laker in three years if he's still playing at a high level.

Mark Willard on Twitter
Bryant said a month ago that he hopes to play three more seasons. His contract is up at the end of this season and both sides have been optimistic about Kobe's chances of re-signing with the Lakers. The outcome, of course, will hinge on Bryant's ability to return from his Achilles injury and how much Kobe is seeking financially. It's easy to have optimism now, but it'll be worth watching when both sides finally get to the negotiating table.
Roger Mason will run for president of NBPA 08-15-2013
Roger Mason G SAC
Roger Mason said that he will run for president of the National Basketball Players Association.

Roger Mason on Twitter
Outside of Mason's "looking like a season. How u," tweet during the NBA lockout in 2011, he hasn't really been in the headlines. He is still unsigned and is unlikely to make much of an impact on the court this season.
Devin Harris (toe) is still a few months away 08-15-2013
Devin Harris G DAL
Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said on Thursday that Devin Harris will be "back into the fold" in 2-3 months after toe surgery.

Earl Sneed on Twitter
Carlisle added that Harris will play at both guard positions. The combo guard can be considered questionable to start the season. Upon his return, Harris should play near the 24.5 minutes per game he logged with the Hawks in the 2012-13 season. The Mavericks brought in a litany of young guards that could eventually push for Harris' playing time, which makes him a risky player to take in fantasy leagues considering his vast injury history.
Monta Ellis thinks he can score 25 per game 08-15-2013
Monta Ellis G IND
Monta Ellis said he can get back to the 2009-10 version of himself with the Mavericks this season.

Earl Sneed on Twitter
He added that he's going to be Dirk's "sidekick." Ellis scored 25.5 points per game that year, but his scoring average has dropped in each season. He scored only 19.2 points with the Bucks last year, but it's not too far-fetched to think that he can revive his scoring output. Dallas should run a quick tempo and their defense is going to be weak, so they'll need a lot of offense out of the athletic Ellis.
Grizzlies acquire Fab Melo from Celtics 08-15-2013
Fab Melo C DAL
The Grizzlies acquired Fab Melo from the Celtics in exchange for Donte Greene on Thursday.
The Celtics are doing anything they can do drop their team salary, including dumping a 23-year-old big man with some promise. Melo had 3.1 blocks per game in his 33 games in the D-League, but played in a grand total of 36 minutes in the NBA last season. He doesn't figure to see much playing time with Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph healthy.
Celtics acquire Donte Greene in trade 08-15-2013
Donte Greene F BOS
The Celtics acquired Donte Greene in a trade on Thursday.
He was signed by the Grizzlies back on April 17, but he didn't play in any games. Greene played in 253 games with the Kings from 2008-12, but didn't see any action last season. He figures to be an end-of-the-bench player for Boston this year.
Grizzlies trying to deal for Fab Melo 08-15-2013
Fab Melo C DAL
The Grizzlies are attempting to work out a trade to acquire Fab Melo from the Celtics in exchange for Donte Greene.

Ronald Tillery on Twitter
Memphis was able to pick up Kosta Koufos to back up Marc Gasol, but they could use a another big man. The Celtics are in an all-out rebuild and Melo has two team options in his contract after this season before he could possibly be a restricted free agent in the summer of 2017. Neither Melo or Greene are on the fantasy radar.
Blake Griffin says he has to help Chris Paul 08-15-2013
Blake Griffin F LAC
Blake Griffin said that he has to help Chris Paul "shoulder that load" for this upcoming season.

"This is the year I need to step into that role and really help him shoulder that load," Griffin said. "I'll be right there with him at the end of games, being the guy that he can always count on." He hasn't really been that great at getting his own shot with 64.2 percent of his field goals coming off assists. Griffin will be good for a few highlight-reel dunks, but he's not an elite guy in fantasy for his lack of blocks and sub-par shooting from the line.
Phil Pressey could get stats without Rondo 08-15-2013
Phil Pressey PG GS
Phil Pressey could start at point guard should Rajon Rondo (knee) need to miss time this season, according to
He was undrafted and the Celtics really don't have another point guard outside of Nolan Smith, considering how poorly Avery Bradley played at that spot last year. Rondo should be ready for the season to start following his torn ACL back in January, so Pressey won't be worth drafting in most formats at this point.
George Hill stands by decision to skip camp 08-15-2013
George Hill G UTH
George Hill said on Wednesday that he doesn't regret his decision to decline his participation in USA Basketball's minicamp from last month.

Indianapolis Star
"I am not going to sacrifice that for something that doesn't mean as much to me as kids mean to me," Hill said. "The kids mean the world to me. If I have to make a decision to cancel some things, I will do it as a man." He spent his Wednesday doing charity work at Riverside Elementary School in Indiana. Hill will enter his third season with the Pacers and should have a chance to duplicate his averages of 14.2 points, 4.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 triples from last year.
DeShaun Thomas close to playing overseas 08-15-2013
Deshaun Thomas F SA
DeShaun Thomas is close to coming a deal with El Estudiantes in Spain.
He was productive in summer league with 12.4 points and 5.0 boards in Las Vegas, but the Spurs have quite a bit of depth. Thomas was the 58th pick in the draft and would probably be better off getting extra playing time. The Buckeye could make his way to the NBA eventually, but it doesn't appear it will be this season.
Knicks and Earl Barron have mutual interest 08-15-2013
Earl Barron C ATL
The Knicks and Earl Barron have mutual interest in coming to terms on a contract.
