Big D12 jersey appears on Beverly Hills Hotel 06-28-2013
Dwight Howard C ATL
The Lakers draped a giant Dwight Howard jersey on the famous Beverly Hills Hotel in their latest attempt to keep Howard in LA.

Lakers on Twitter
This reeks of desperation, but the Lakers aren't trying to pick up someone at a bar, they're going after a world-class player that loves attention, so this strategy could work. Howard is going to meet with other teams and said he'll have an answer on which team he'll play for on July 10. After last summer, it's not exactly easy to believe him. Trey Burke will change Jazz FA approach 06-28-2013
Trey Burke G WAS
GM Dennis Lindsey said the selection of Trey Burke will change the Jazz's tactics in free agency.

Salt Lake Tribune
"Certainly, that could change our tactics in how we enter free agency and who we would go after," Lindsey said. It's obvious that filling massive hole at point guard in the draft will change their plans, but since Burke can make such a huge impact in his rookie year, it's worth mentioning. He was dynamite in his sophomore season at Michigan, averaging 18.6 points, 6.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.9 triples on 46.3 percent from the field and 80.1 percent at the line. We're expecting big things out of Burke as long as the Jazz don't sign another starting-caliber point guard.
Cuban had Shane Larkin a ninth-best player 06-28-2013
Shane Larkin G BKN
Mark Cuban ranked Shane Larkin as the ninth-best player in the 2013 draft class.

Dallas Morning News
"Our analytics guys had Shane ranked as the ninth-best guy in the draft," Cuban said. "All the guys who worked him out loved him. Coach loved him. So we kind of think we had our cake and ate it too." Cuban is obviously trying to make the right first impression, but Larkin does make a lot of sense for the Mavs. His pick-and-roll skills should translate nicely in Rick Carlisle's system. Carlisle said he sees Larkin as a backup or third-string guard for now, so he'll have to get to work for regular minutes.
Scalabine could become GSW assistant 06-28-2013
Brian Scalabrine F CHI
The Warriors had a discussion with Brian Scalabine about becoming an assistant coach.

Yahoo! Sports
The Warriors lost a couple assistants this offseason, headlined by Mike Malone joining the Kings. Scalabine was a color analyst for the Celtics last season after turning down a chance to join Tom Thibodeau's staff in Chicago in 2012. He was a fan favorite and his charisma could translate to the coaching profession.
Kwame Brown will pick up player option 06-28-2013
Kwame Brown C PHI
Kwame Brown has exercised his $2.95 million player option for next season, agent Mark Bartelstein told Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

Ken Berger on Twitter
It was a no-brainer decision for Brown. He wouldn't be coveted by many teams on a multiple-year deal and a one-year deal that is more than $3 million is just as unlikely. Brown is one of the biggest busts with the top overall pick in draft history and nobody is expecting him to be a late bloomer at age 31. He played 12.2 minutes per game last year and could have a similar role.
Mo Williams won't re-sign with Jazz as backup 06-28-2013

The Pistons are reportedly in talks with Rasheed Wallace to become an assistant coach.

Ray Allen decides to return to Heat for $3.2M 06-28-2013
Ray Allen G MIA
Ray Allen has decided to pick up his $3.229 million player option with the Heat for the 2013-14 season.

Chris Tomasson on Twitter
It's a mild surprise. Allen might have been able to squeeze out a two-year deal worth a little more money from the Heat if he had opted out and become an unrestricted free agent Monday. But in the end, Allen "settling" for the $3.2 million and free agency in 2014 will help the Heat's salary cap situation. He'll return as a court-stretcher off the bench, likely for something around the 25.8 minutes a night he got this past season.
Suns claim they see Gortat and Len together 06-28-2013
Marcin Gortat C WAS
Suns coach Jeff Hornacek insisted that the team is not immediately looking to trade Marcin Gortat.

Blazers see C.J. McCollum in a sixth man role 06-28-2013
C.J. McCollum G POR
Coach Terry Stotts says he envisions No. 10 overall pick C.J. McCollum in a sixth man role initially.

The Oregonian
The Blazers seemed a little disappointed that they weren't able to acquire the center they desperately needed. They settled for McCollum, who is a playmaking, scoring combo guard similar to reigning Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard. Look for Wesley Matthews to retain the starting shooting guard job as this trio forms a three-man rotation. There's still plenty of room for McCollum to get near 30 minutes a night.
Sixers tried to trade away Turner Thursday? 06-28-2013
Evan Turner G POR
The Sixers tried to trade away Evan Turner during Thursday's draft, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer's Tyler Tynes.

Tyler Tynes on Twitter
All the Sixers wanted in exchange for Turner was a late first-round pick. The fact that they could find no takers speaks volumes. In three seasons since going No. 2 overall in the draft, Turner has failed to improve his brutal jump shot, clashed with former coach Doug Collins and earned a bust label. New GM Sam Hinkie would probably accept a ham sandwich for the Ohio State product.
Cavs won't just hand starting job to Bennett 06-28-2013
Anthony Bennett F BKN
Coach Mike Brown said No. 1 overall pick Anthony Bennett will have to compete with Tristan Thompson for power forward minutes.

Cleveland Plain Dealer
Brown is an old-school coach. He's not just going to heap pressure on Bennett by saying he'll come in, start from Day 1 and be the No. 2 option behind Kyrie Irving. But a true competition based on merit will almost certainly go to Bennett, who gives the Cavs far more offensive upside and outside shooting. The UNLV product is also versatile enough to play some small forward, a trouble spot for Cleveland of late. "He's different than the bigs we have. He can be used in a lot of different ways," Brown said. Anything less than 28-30 minutes a night for Bennett this season would be a surprise.
Ben Gordon opts in, as expected 06-28-2013
Ben Gordon G GS
Ben Gordon picked up his $13.2M player option for the 2013-14 season, as expected.

Ken Berger on Twitter
Gordon will enter the season as one of the league's most overpaid players. At least now he will have an expiring contract, so the Bobcats can use him as a trade chip. Last year, Gordon played just 20.8 minutes per game and averaged 11.2 points on 40.8 percent shooting.
Dirk reaches out to Dwight about joining Mavs 06-28-2013
Dwight Howard C ATL
Dirk Nowitzki has been in touch with impending free agent Dwight Howard.

ESPN Dallas
"I reached out to him and told him we'd love to have him. ... To me, when he's healthy, he's the most dominant big man in the league." Nowitzki said Thursday. The Mavs are among a handful of teams that have the cap space to seriously go after Howard when free agency opens on Monday. However, they don't have the most talented roster. The Rockets, Lakers, Warriors and Hawks will also be trying to score meetings with Howard.
Mayo opts out of $4.02M contract, as expected 06-28-2013
O.J. Mayo G MIL
O.J. Mayo officially declined his $4.02 million player option for the 2013-14 season.

Ken Berger on Twitter
Mayo will be an unrestricted free agent when the window opens on Monday. Coming off a bounce-back season that saw him average 15.3 points, 4.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds, he'll be seeking a long-term contract and will likely land with the highest bidder. The Wolves, Cavs and Pistons have all been linked to Mayo over the last month.

The Times-Picayune suggests Greivis Vasquez could play some small forward in 2013-14.

Pierre Jackson lands with Pelicans 06-28-2013
Pierre Jackson G DAL
Updating a previous item, the Sixers traded the rights to Baylor PG Pierre Jackson to the Pelicans Thursday night.

New Orleans Times-Picayune
The Sixers selected Jackson at No. 42 overall, but they were actually picking for the the Pelicans as part of the Jrue Holiday/Nerlens Noel trade. So now New Orleans' point-guard depth chart includes Holiday, Greivis Vasquez, Brian Roberts and Jackson. They also have Austin Rivers, who they claim can play the point. Something has to give.
Report: Ray Allen expected back with the Heat 06-28-2013
Ray Allen G MIA
A source tells FOX Sports that Ray Allen is expected back with the Heat next season.

FOX Sports Florida
There's a "good chance" Allen opts out of his $3.229 million player option for the 2013-14 season, but doesn't mean his time in Miami is over. He could re-sign with the Heat for a max payday of $3.708 million next season and get anything up to a four-year deal. Of course, Allen will be 38 next month and the Heat will want to keep his contract as short as possible. Regardless, both sides want to get a deal done eventually and are expected to.
Bobcats see Cody Zeller as a stretch 4 06-28-2013
Cody Zeller C CHA
The Charlotte Observer suggests the Bobcats see Cody Zeller as a "stretch 4."

Charlotte Observer
It's exactly what Zeller tried to prove during the draft process and it's why his stock rose to No. 4 overall. It's also part of the reason the Bobcats didn't extend a qualifying offer to Byron Mullens. We know Zeller has the athletic ability to play the position, the question is if he really has the jumper. He was not asked to step outside the paint while at Indiana. It's something to watch closely during Summer League and training camp.
Raptors decline option on Lucas III 06-28-2013
John Lucas G MIA
Raptors declined the 2013-14 player option on John Lucas III.

Raptors on Twitter
Lucas will become an unrestricted free agent on Monday. ESPN's Marc Stein hinted on Thursday night that the Bulls could be interested as a replacement for impending free agent Nate Robinson. Lucas averaged 7.5 points and 2.2 assists in 14.8 minutes a night while playing for Chicago in 2011-12.

Report: Nets are interested in Jason Collins 06-28-2013
Jason Collins C BKN
The Nets are targeting Jason Collins in free agency, Yahoo! Sports reports.

Yahoo! Sports
The 34-year-old center became the first active openly gay player in league and regardless of how many minutes he plays, he'll be a big story in mainstream media. Collins is a former Net and has a good relationship with coaches Jason Kidd and Lawrence Frank from his playing days. Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were also ex-teammates of Collins. He'd serve as a defensive post presence for limited minutes on a team trying desperately to win now.
Gerald Henderson gets qualifying offer 06-28-2013
Gerald Henderson G PHI
Gerald Henderson received a qualifying offer from the Bobcats on Friday, Rick Bonnell Reports.

Rick Bonnell on Twitter
The Bobcats put a lot of responsibility on Hendo last season and he didn't disappoint. After the break, he averaged 18.9 points, 4.0 boards, 3.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.4 3-pointers in 35.9 minutes per game. Charlotte didn't exactly get better on Thursday through the draft, so fantasy owners can probably expect late-mid round production from Henderson.
Byron Mullens doesn't get qualifying offer 06-28-2013
B.J. Mullens C PHI
The Bobcats will not extend a qualifying offer to Byron Mullens, according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.

Brandon Jennings receives qualifying offer 06-28-2013
Brandon Jennings G NY
The Milwaukee Bucks made a qualifying offer to Brandon Jennings and plan to match any offer from other teams.

Andrew Gruman on Twitter
GM John Hammond added that the team will negotiate with Jennings. Yesterday the Bucks had made Jennings available in a trade for the right price, but there wasn't really a peep about him during the draft.
Wolves use team option on Dante Cunningham 06-28-2013
Dante Cunningham F NO
The Timberwolves exercised their one-year team option on Dante Cunningham for next season.

Timberwolves PR on Twitter
It was just a $2.2 million option and this was an expected move from Minnesota. Cunningham got plenty of run with Kevin Love hurt for almost the entire year while Nikola Pekovic missed 20 games. Cunningham played 25.1 minutes per game last season, which will likely drop below the 20-minute mark next year.
Chris Paul to Clips sounds like a 'done deal' 06-28-2013
Chris Paul G LAC
The competiting NBA teams consider Chris Paul's return to Clippers on five-year max contract as a "done deal," according to Marc Stein of ESPN.com.

Marc Stein on Twitter
The word on the street is that Doc Rivers is talking to Paul every day and last week CP3 reportedly expressed his opinion about getting Rivers to be his head coach. Barring a wild sign-and-trade, Paul will have a similar supporting cast around him and he'll be the primary playmaker. He'll be a top-five pick in fantasy leagues with his elite production in assists and steals.
Report: Jerryd Bayless will stay in Memphis 06-28-2013
Jerryd Bayless G PHI
Jerryd Bayless has elected to invoke his $3.1 million player option for next season to stay with the Grizzlies, reports Marc Stein of ESPN.com.

Marc Stein on Twitter
It's a bit of a surprise and reports from earlier this morning had him opting out. Bayless proved to be a useful sixth man for the Grizzlies after the Rudy Gay trade, headlined by March averages of 13.5 points and 1.7 triples on 45 percent shooting in 25.9 minutes per game. He did lose some steam in the playoffs thanks to shooting 35.3 percent from the field, so that may have been a factor in his decision to play it safe and not go for the big money. He'll be a late-round pick in standard fantasy drafts.
Andre Iguodala officially opts out of deal 06-28-2013
Andre Iguodala G GS
Andre Iguodala has officially opted out of his contract, sources told ESPN's Chris Broussard.

Chris Broussard on Twitter
This was an expected move that is now official. Iguodala is not a lock to re-sign with the Nuggets, but he has endorsed new head coach Brian Shaw. For what it's worth, the Nuggets are making Iguodala their top priority in free agency.
Boris Diaw expected to opt in with Spurs 06-28-2013
Boris Diaw C UTH
Boris Diaw is expected to opt-in with the Spurs, keeping him with the team next season to the tune of $4.7 million.

Marc Spears on Twitter
Diaw isn't going to get a bigger contract than he already has, so this was a no brainer. He can play several positions for the Spurs, and will likely spend time at center, power forward and small forward again next year.
John Lucas' option to be declined by Raps? 06-28-2013
John Lucas G MIA
ESPN's Marc Stein is "hearing" the Raptors will decline the option on John Lucas' contract, making him a free agent.

Marc Stein on Twitter
If that does happen, Stein says to not be surprised if he winds up back with the Bulls. It wouldn't be surprising if Lucas is let out of his deal considering the Raptors are going to be remade under Masai Ujiri.
Report: Nets 'interested' in Kyle Korver 06-28-2013
Kyle Korver G CLE
According to ESPN New York, the Nets are interested in Kyle Korver.

Mike Mazzeo on Twitter
The Nets are interested in everyone. Brooklyn can only offer so much in free agency with their roster as it's constructed, and Korver will easily price himself out of the Nets market. Consider this a long shot at best.
MarShon Brooks sent to Celtics in KG deal 06-28-2013
Marshon Brooks G LAL
As part of the Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce trade, MarShon Brooks has been traded to the Celtics.

Brooks wasn't originally in the deal, but he is now. Reggie Evans and Tornike Shengelia are not in the deal, and they will remain in Brooklyn. Brooks offers some intrigue and returns to the Celtics after the team initially drafted him, and it's obvious Boston is looking to rebuild from the bottom up.
Andrew Bynum not expected back w/ Sixers 06-28-2013
Andrew Bynum C IND
Andrew Bynum is not expected to be re-signed by the Sixers after the team traded for Nerlens Noel.

Marc Stein on Twitter
We didn't expect Bynum back in Philadelphia after his disaster of a season this year, and we have a strong inclination that Bynum wouldn't have been back regardless of what the Sixers did on draft night. Bynum will be one of the more fascinating free agent cases to follow considering all of the uncertainties regarding his health.
Lou Williams progressing from ACL tear 06-28-2013
Lou Williams G LAL
Lou Williams (torn ACL) is progressing "really well of late," according to GM Danny Ferry.

Chris Vivlamore on Twitter
Williams is questionable for training camp and the start of the season, and it would be right around eight months removed from surgery when the 2013/14 season begins. It's possible sweet Lou gets his season off to a delayed start, but fantasy owners should keep him in mind as a potential sleeper depending on how the Hawks roster shakes out.
Lakers not extending QO to three players 06-28-2013
Darius Morris G BKN
The Lakers will not extend a qualifying offer to Darius Morris, Andrew Goudelock or Devin Ebanks.

Mark Medina on Twitter
All three players will be unrestricted free agents as a result. None come as a surprise considering how rarely they played, and the Lakers will have to shop in the bargain bin to fill out their bench. Chris Duhon is also not expected back with the team.
Magic GM: ORL could revisit Bledsoe trade 06-28-2013
Eric Bledsoe G PHO
Orlando Magic GM Rob Hennigan said the team could revisit the Eric Bledsoe for Arron Afflalo swap in the offseason.

Brian K. Schmitz on Twitter
With Orlando taking Victor Oladipo second overall in the draft, the team will likely look to move Afflalo as they go even younger. If they can ship him to Los Angeles and acquire Bledsoe, it would be a major win for Hennigan and a backcourt of the future that includes Bledsoe and Oladipo would be very fun to watch.
Report: Celtics expected to pursue Copeland 06-28-2013
Chris Copeland SF NO
The Celtics are expected to pursue Chris Copeland in free agency.

Jared Zwerling on Twitter
At this juncture, Copeland's list of potential suitors is growing by the minute. The Celtics might give him a look, but it's hard to imagine a rebuilding team getting into a bidding war for a role player.
Source: Dwight Howard will decide July 10 06-28-2013
Dwight Howard C ATL
A source close to Dwight Howard told ESPN Los Angeles that Dwight Howard will be ready to choose his free agent destination on July 10.

ESPN Los Angeles
July 10 is the first day free agents can officially sign or re-sign, so it sounds like the Dwightmare should be coming to a swift resolution. Of course, that's what we thought when Howard was in Orlando, so it's possible this drags out longer than expected as well. Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak continues to be optimistic about re-signing Howard, but the Rockets are lurking as a very real threat.
JaVale McGee expected to start for Nuggets 06-28-2013
JaVale McGee C GS
JaVale McGee is fully expected to take over as starter at center for the Nuggets following the departure of Kosta Koufos.

Marc Stein on Twitter
Denver management was not happy that McGee rode the bench last season, something that won't be the case this time around. McGee will start for this Nuggets team under Brian Shaw and has serious fantasy upside if he can average anywhere north of 30 minutes per game. Put him on your cheat sheet and don't forget about him on draft day.

Jeff Green could have a monster season 06-28-2013
Jeff Green F ORL
Jeff Green looks to be a focal point for the Celtics in the 2013-14 season. With Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce out of town, Boston will have to replace 33.4 points and 14.1 boards from last season. Green was already a stud in the postseason, leading the team in scoring and fantasy owners saw him put up top-50 value in standard leagues in March and April. He has the potential to be a seven-cat beast and it's not a stretch to think he'll cost a third-round pick in 12-team leagues.
Maynor won't get a qualifying offer 06-28-2013
Eric Maynor G PHI
Eric Maynor will not receive a qualifying offer from the Blazers this offseason, which would make him a free agent.

Joe Freeman on Twitter
The drafting of C.J. McCollum makes him expendable and Maynor has lost a lot of the luster he had when playing in OKC. He'll need to show his knee is healthy and land in a good spot before fantasy owners should pay attention.
Malcolm Lee traded to Golden State Thursday 06-28-2013
Malcolm Lee G PHI
Malcolm Lee was traded to the Golden State Warriors in a draft-day deal on Thursday. He was pretty much just a throw-in player from the Wolves in this deal. When the Wolves were decimated in the backcourt, Lee started 12 games and scored 5.4 minutes. He had surgery on his knee and hip in January and is a longshot to be a contributor for the Warriors.
Darrell Arthur traded to the Nuggets 06-28-2013
Darrell Arthur F DEN
Darrell Arthur was traded to the Nuggets in exchange for Kosta Koufos on Thursday. The Nuggets also got the 55th pick in the deal. Grizzlies management was reportedly unhappy that Lionel Hollins wasn't playing Ed Davis late last season, so they pulled a Billy Beane and traded him away so there wasn't any doubt this year. Arthur will see rotation minutes in Denver, but he'll need an injury in front of him to have any real value.
Joseph heading to Boston in draft day swap 06-28-2013
Kris Joseph F ORL
Nets forward Kris Joseph will be traded to the Celtics as a part of the Kevin Garnett-Paul Pierce deal from draft day. Joseph was a second round pick of the Celtics in 2012 before getting released and landing with the Nets on a 10-day deal at the end of last year. He'll be fighting for a roster spot on a blown up Celtics roster.
Bogans heading to Boston in sign-and-trade 06-28-2013
Keith Bogans G PHI
Keith Bogans will be sent to Boston in a sign-and-trade deal including Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Gerald Wallace. It's unclear if Bogans will stick to the roster at this time, but owners shouldn't exactly be waiting on pins and needles. He has no fantasy value.
