Report: Mavs' Shawn Marion won't be traded 06-26-2013
Shawn Marion F CLE
ESPN's Tim McMahon is reporting that there is very little chance that Shawn Marion will be traded on draft night by the Mavericks.

Tim McMahon on Twitter
In fact, he says there is a zero percent chance Marion is moved, as he would have to approve a deal before June 30, and none have been discussed. This doesn't mean Marion won't be traded at some point after the draft, but if you're expecting a draft-day shocker involving Marion, it doesn't look feasible.
Lance Stephenson excited about return of Bird 06-26-2013
Lance Stephenson G CHA
Lance Stephenson is "surprised and excited" about Larry Bird's return to the Pacers next season.

Stephen J. Nesbitt on Twitter
Bird had Stephenson's back, even during the bad times, and the two talked after every game last season, despite Bird not being a part of Pacers. While this doesn't really do much to guarantee Stephenson a starting job or even a bigger role next year, it certainly can't hurt. And given how well Stephenson played during the playoffs, he could be ready to take a big step forward next season. Look at him as a deep sleeper candidate, as long as he is the sixth man in Indy.
Report: Trevor Ariza to exercise option year 06-26-2013
Trevor Ariza F HOU
Trevor Ariza informed the Wizards on Tuesday night he plans to exercise the $7.7 million option in his contract, sources tell beat writer Michael Lee.

Michael Lee on Twitter
This isn't a surprise considering Ariza struggled through injuries this season and was unlikely to get anything close to $7.7 million annually as a free agent. He'll have to prove he can stay healthy next season before heading back into free agency.
Magic GM hasn't talked to Clippers in 3 weeks 06-26-2013
Arron Afflalo G DEN
Magic GM Rob Hennigan says he hasn't talked to the Clippers in three weeks.

Orlando Sentinel
The Magic and Clippers have frequently been linked in trade rumblings regarding Arron Afflalo and Eric Bledsoe, but Hennigan said he would be "stunned" if a deal between the clubs happened in the near future. "We haven't had a drop or an ounce of communication with the Clippers for almost three weeks," Hennigan said. "So, if we're about to make a trade with them, I guess I missed that memo."
Knicks extend qualifying offer to Prigioni 06-26-2013
Pablo Prigioni G NY
The Knicks extended a qualifying offer to Pablo Prigioni.

Al Iannazzone on Twitter
The Knicks have ensured Prigioni will be a restricted free agent July 1. While that doesn't guarantee he'll stay with the Knicks, it certainly gives them a better chance at retaining him. The Argentine-born point guard is expected to seek a deal in the one-year, $2 million range.
Doc Rivers didn't tell Ainge he was returning 06-26-2013
Doc Rivers F SA
Doc Rivers disputed Danny Ainge's claim that he said he was planning to return as Celtics coach.

Scott Souza on Twitter
Rivers' comment was in relation to a statement Ainge made saying that Rivers had decided to return as Boston's coach, which the now-former Celtics coach says he hadn't told Ainge. Rivers said at the time Ainge made that statement he was considering taking a break from coaching, which he first started thinking about after the Celtics were eliminated from the playoffs by the Knicks. Rivers did say he had decided to return to the Celtics on Sunday after he thought the trade to the Clippers fell apart. After Ainge informed him the team had made the deal after all, Rivers reconsidered the move and decided it was best for all parties. While Rivers' account of things appears to differ pretty significantly from Ainge's version, the one thing that's clear is we're glad this saga is finally over and done.
Lakers tender Robert Sacre a qualifying offer 06-26-2013
Robert Sacre C LAL
The Lakers have extended a qualifying offer to Robert Sacre.

Jeff Zillgitt on Twitter
This means Sacre is officially a restricted free agent and his rights remain under the Lakers' control. The Lakers would be entitled to draft-pick compensation if Sacre signed with another team.
Lakers exercise team option on Jodie Meeks 06-26-2013
Jodie Meeks G DET
The Lakers have exercised their option on Jodie Meeks.

Ken Berger on Twitter
This isn't surprising considering Meeks delivered solid value last season. Meeks, who is rehabbing a partially torn ligament in his ankle, will make $1.55 million under the terms of the option and should be a decent role player for the Lakers next season.
Report: Eric Gordon 'very available' in trade 06-26-2013
Eric Gordon G NO
The Pelicans have made Eric Gordon "very available" in trade talks ahead of Thursday's draft, a source tells RealGM.

RealGM.com
Wait, so you're telling us the Pelicans are looking to move an injury-prone guard with a massive contract for a younger, cheaper asset? This isn't exactly surprising news since Gordon's been mentioned in trade talks ever since he landed in New Orleans. It should be noted the Pelicans would likely have to eat most of Gordon's max contract if they do end up trading him and are unlikely to get much back for a player that hasn't played anything close to a full season since his rookie year.
Report: Kings prepared to lose Evans as RFA 06-26-2013
Tyreke Evans G NO
The Kings aren't willing to match increased offers for pending RFA Tyreke Evans and are prepared to lose him, according to Carmichael Dave.

Carmichael Dave on Twitter
Dave was on point during the Kings' ownership saga and has been reliable in the past, so it's worth nothing his report. Still, free agency is far enough away that things could still change for both the team and for Evans. It's worth noting that Evans is still just 23 years old and could land an offer sheet from a team that believes in the potential Evans displayed as an impressive rookie. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Report: Nets, Cavs talked Miles-for-22 trade 06-26-2013
C.J. Miles G IND
The Nets and Cavs have discussed a trade that would send C.J. Miles to Brooklyn in exchange for the No. 22 overall pick, a source tells Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.

Stefan Bondy on Twitter
The Cavs were reportedly considering declining Miles' option for next season, so it's unclear why the Nets would part with a draft pick for someone they might be able to land as a free agent. Still, that report was from late April and the Cavs may have decided Miles is a better asset under contract. Take this one with the usual grain of salt.
Reports: Bird will return as Pacers president 06-26-2013
Pape Sow F
Larry Bird will return to the Pacers as team president, according to multiple media reports.

Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter
Bird will return to the team after taking a year away from basketball. Larry Legend previously interviewed for a position with the Kings but eventually withdrew his name from contention. Current team president, Donnie Walsh, has said he expects Bird to return to the Pacers' front office and is 100 percent willing to step down once that happens. The Pacers have scheduled a news conference for Friday morning to announce Bird's return.
Carl Landry officially opts out of contract 06-26-2013
Carl Landry F SAC
Carl Landry has officially opted out of his contract with the Warriors.

Jim Paschke on Twitter
Landry had one more year at $4 million remaining on the deal but will surely find much better offers waiting for him in free agency. Landry has said he'd like to remain with the Warriors, but it's unlikely Golden State will be able to match some of the offers Landry will get on the open market. Stay tuned.
Report: Knicks undecided on Melo surgery 06-26-2013
Carmelo Anthony F NY
The Knicks haven't made a decision on whether Carmelo Anthony will have surgery on his shoulder, a league source tells ESPN New York's Ian Begley.

Ian Begley on Twitter
Anthony's shoulder was reportedly "improving" late last week and Begley reports the Knicks remain hopeful Melo can heal without needing to go under the knife. The only concern we have is the Knicks waiting so long to make a decision that Anthony's recovery will leak into training camp or the beginning of next season.
Lakers hang banner asking Howard to stay 06-26-2013
Dwight Howard C HOU
The Lakers hung a banner outside the Staples Center pleading with Dwight Howard to "stay."

Janis Carr on Twitter
The massive banner occupies nearly an entire side of the arena's exterior and features a picture of Howard in a Lakers jersey with the word "STAY" in big, bold letters and "#STAYD12" underneath. With Howard reportedly considering bolting L.A. for the Rockets, the Lakers are putting on the full-court press with Howard. It's startling how much things have changed in the last year regarding the Lakers' relationship with the pending free agent.
Rivers says Rondo wasn't reason for BOS exit 06-26-2013
Rajon Rondo G BOS
Doc Rivers says he didn't leave the Celtics because he didn't want to coach Rajon Rondo.

Baxter Holmes on Twitter
Rondo and Rivers reportedly nearly got into a fist fight after the point guard used profanity during a team meeting at some point in the past. Rivers on Wednesday called the idea that he didn't want to coach Rondo "silly," but it's not the first time the two have reportedly been at odds. With Rivers now in L.A., it'll be interesting to see how Rondo gets along with his replacement and whether he has any say in the Celtics' next head coach.
Report: Clips, Blazers talked Jordan in past 06-26-2013
DeAndre Jordan C LAC
The Clippers and Trail Blazers discussed a DeAndre Jordan trade before the Clippers hired Doc Rivers as coach, sources tell Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter
It's unclear whether these talks were concurrent with Jordan's rumored trade to the Celtics. Wojnarowski notes that Jordan's current market value and the Blazers' interest in the athletic big man are both unclear at this point. The one thing that appears obvious is Jordan will continue to be at least a topic of discussion on the trade market this summer.
Report: Kings not discussing Fredette trades 06-26-2013
Jimmer Fredette G NO
Despite reports to the contrary, USA Today's Sam Amick reports the Kings have had no discussions with teams about trading Jimmer Fredette.

Sam Amick on Twitter
Fredette was rumored to be available for a mid-to-late first-round pick Tuesday. Amick reports the Kings' new management team is willing to discuss trades involving anyone on the roster, but he is not being shopped at this point and has not been brought up in any discussions.
Magic GM weighing 3-4 offers for No. 2 pick 06-26-2013
Tobias Harris F ORL
Magic GM Rob Hennigan says he's seriously considering three to four trade offers for the No. 2 pick.

John Denton on Twitter
Multiple media outlets reported earlier Wednesday afternoon the Magic were considering moving out of the No. 2 spot and Hennigan confirmed at a pre-draft news conference he's heard from at least 12 teams about the No. 2 overall selection. At this point, it just sounds like Hennigan is doing his due diligence in case the Magic don't like the players available at No. 2. A trade remains possible but is far from a definite.
Nuggets' first-round pick reportedly for sale 06-26-2013
Brian Shaw G LAL
The Nuggets' first-round draft is available for sale for teams looking to buy their way into the first round, according to TNT's David Aldridge.

David Aldridge on Twitter
This isn't surprising considering the position of the pick (27th overall) and the quality of the talent in the draft. Picks in the later third of the first round are always for sale, especially with teams in smaller markets like Denver. We'll have to wait and see if anything comes of this.
Jarvis Varnado will compete in summer league 06-26-2013
Jarvis Varnado F PHI
Jarvis Varnado will play on the Heat's summer league team.

Ethan J. Skolnick on Twitter
Varnado spent the season shuffling between the D-League and the NBA. He'll try to earn an end-of-the-bench roster spot this summer. Varnado has no fantasy value.
Report: Bulls would flip Robinson after trade 06-26-2013
Thomas Robinson F POR
The Bulls would flip Thomas Robinson to another team if they acquired him on or before draft night, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Marc Stein on Twitter
Stein reported earlier Wednesday the Bulls could deal the No. 20 pick for Robinson, who was the fifth overall selection last year at this time. It's stunning how quickly his stock has fallen, but the Rockets are desperately attempting to clear space to land Dwight Howard in free agency. The Cavs are also rumored to have interest in Robinson.
Clippers introduce Doc Rivers as head coach 06-26-2013
Doc Rivers F SA
The Clippers finally introduced Doc Rivers as coach Wednesday afternoon.

Chris Forsberg on Twitter
Rivers said he was still preparing to coach the Celtics as late as Sunday and was even discussing Boston's personnel with GM Danny Ainge. According to Rivers, Ainge informed the coach a couple hours later he would be heading to Los Angeles after both sides finally agreed to compensation. It will be interesting to see how Rivers' coach style translates with the Clippers' personnel, particularly with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, who will likely have a lot more expected of them on the defensive side of the ball under Rivers.
Doc Rivers says he has talked to Chris Paul 06-26-2013
Chris Paul G LAC
Doc Rivers said he has talked to Chris Paul since becoming the Clippers head coach.

Dave McMenamin on Twitter
Rivers reportedly accepted the Clippers job with the understanding that "he'll be coaching (Chris) Paul" this season, so the contact between both parties shouldn't surprise anyone. CP3 was clearly one of the key figures behind the pursuit of Rivers and it's likely only a matter of time before the pending free agent re-signs with the Clippers on a long-term, max-money contract.
Report: Magic weighing trade options at No. 2 06-26-2013
Tobias Harris F ORL
The Magic are "weighing possible deals" out of the No. 2 spot in the draft, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter
That's a fairly vague update and we're really not sure what it means other than that Orlando is still doing their due diligence before the draft begins. A trade is a possibility, but it's not a certainty at all.
Report: Robinson to Cavs, Bulls on the table 06-26-2013
Thomas Robinson F POR
Thomas Robinson could be dealt to either the Cavs or Bulls on or before draft night, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

Marc Stein on Twitter
Stein reports that Robinson for the Cavs No. 19 pick or Robinson for the Bulls pick at No. 20 are both scenarios on the table. Considering Robinson was the fifth overall pick last season, it's not an unreasonable asking price at all. We would be surprised if Robinson is not dealt considering how badly the team wants to make a play for Dwight Howard.
Heat interested in Oden, worked out for MIA 06-26-2013
Greg Oden C MIA
Greg Oden has been working out for the Miami Heat in recent days and Pat Riley confirmed the team is interested in him.

Chris Tomasson on Twitter
Oden would be a very interesting fit in Miami, where he could slide into a situation where few would be expecting big things if and when he does return. A lot has to happen for Oden to sign with the Heat, but it sounds like both sides would welcome a deal.
Riley: Heat not planning to amnesty Miller 06-26-2013
Mike Miller G CLE
The Heat are not preparing to use the amnesty clause on Mike Miller, according to Pat Riley.

Chris Tomasson on Twitter
Riley said that he won't amnesty Miller unless "he gets a mandate to do so," and we can't see that happening. It sounds like Riley has every intention to return next season with a very similar roster if not exactly the same one.
Heat to exercise contract option on Chalmers 06-26-2013
Mario Chalmers G MIA
The Heat will exercise Mario Chalmers' $4 million player option for the 2013/14 season.

Tim Reynolds on Twitter
Rio will be back with the Heat next season. The team had to make a decision shortly after the Finals concluded and wasted no time in doing so.
Report: Bulls shopping Richard Hamilton again 06-26-2013
Richard Hamilton G CHI
The Bulls are again unsuccessfully shopping Richard Hamilton.

Chicago Tribune
Hamilton has a $5 million commitment next season, but the Bulls can buy him out for $1 million if done before July 10, a likely scenario considering Hamilton's stock around the league. He's dealt with serious injury issues during his Bulls tenure and seems likely to be playing elsewhere next year.
Satoransky may or may not join Wizards 06-26-2013
Tomas Satoransky G WAS
Toma s Satoransky may or may not join the Wizards for the 2013/14 season.

Washington Post
GM Ernie Grunfeld was rather non-committal when asked about Satoransky. "We're in contact with him at all times. He has a contractual situation that he's dealing with right now," Grunfeld said. "We'll see how that gets resolved and it should get resolved within the next couple of weeks with his representatives over there and after that, we'll get a better feel." Satoransky's future in Washington is a major question mark.
Bradley Beal unlikely to play summer league 06-26-2013
Bradley Beal G WAS
Bradley Beal (leg) is unlikely to play in summer league.

Washington Post
"Brad, he's gotten clearance to do more work. He's picked up his activity level. He hasn't been cleared to go full contact and we're not going to rush anything," GM Ernie Grunfeld said. "We'll see how he develops and how he is. It's not the middle of the season, so there is no urgency to push him. We're going to take a very cautious approach with him." Don't expect Beal to play in summer league after proving he's a legitimate NBA player in his rookie season. The Wizards want him to be fully healthy for next year.
Report: Several teams interested in Copeland 06-26-2013
Chris Copeland F IND
Several teams are interested in restricted free agent Chris Copeland.

Ian Begley on Twitter
In addition to the Pelicans, the Thunder, Bucks, Mavs, Jazz and Wizards have "shown interest." It's not much in the way of an update of Copeland's suitors, but it's another indication the Knicks face an uphill battle in retaining him.
Report: McMillan could wind up w/ Pacers 06-26-2013
Nate McMillan G Sea
Nate McMillan met with Pacers coach Frank Vogel about joining Indiana's coaching staff.

Indianapolis Star
"We're going to look at a lot of different types of assistant coaches, but certainly I think it's important to have a former player or two on your bench to share some of the experiences that our guys are going through," Vogel said. McMillan will get some consideration for the assistant job, but he's not a frontrunner at the moment.
Bobcats exec Cho denies shopping MKG 06-26-2013
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist F CHA
Bobcats executive Rich Cho vehemently denied a rumor that the team was shopping Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

Rick Bonnell on Twitter
"No! We're not shopping him," Cho said. After a strong denial via a team source on Tuesday, it seems like it's time to move beyond this "rumor" that was very silly to begin with. Given how much talent the Bobcats need and the fact that Kidd-Gilchrist was drafted second overall last season, we can't see any scenario where MKG leaves Charlotte.
Ray Allen not expected to opt in with Heat 06-26-2013
Ray Allen G MIA
Ray Allen is not expected to opt in with the Heat, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

South Florida Sun-Sentinel
Even if Allen doesn't opt in, it doesn't mean he's leaving. Allen can sign a new deal that would call for him to make more money by opting out and then re-signing with the team, so that's a scenario on the table. Allen is expected to be a free agent and the Heat won't be allowed to re-sign him officially until July 10. Miami has already said retaining him is the top priority.
Report: Bucks, Pistons linked to J.R. Smith 06-26-2013
J.R. Smith G NY
The Bucks and Pistons are "among several teams" interested in J.R. Smith, sources told ESPN New York.

Ian Begley on Twitter
Smith will draw plenty of interest but we have a hard time believing either the Bucks or Pistons will make a serious play for his services. The Knicks will face a challenge in retaining him no matter what teams are interested in him because they're limited in what they can spend to retain him.
Wolves priority is re-signing Nikola Pekovic 06-26-2013
Nikola Pekovic C MIN
The Timberwolves priority is re-signing restricted free agent Nikola Pekovic.

St. Paul Pioneer Press
The team has made it clear that they do not intend to let Pekovic leave Minnesota, but they'll have to pay the big man to stay in the fold. He's going to get a multi-year offer, likely worth around $10 million annually or more, but the Timberwolves will be able to match any offer he receives. The team "intends" to re-sign Pekovic even if it means matching another team's offer sheet.
Lakers GM says Dwight Howard is the future 06-26-2013
Dwight Howard C HOU
Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak said Dwight Howard is the team's future and that Howard is fully recovered from his back injury.

NBA.com
"I think he had a great season and just didn't get enough credit for it," said Kupchak. "Dwight is in a category of the great; he's over his back injury and there's no reason he can't play seven or eight more years at that position." Kupchak went on to say that Howard is "our future," referring to the Lakers. It's not clear what the Lakers will do if Howard leaves Los Angeles.
Report: Celtics leaning toward keeping Pierce 06-26-2013
Paul Pierce F WAS
The Celtics are now leaning toward picking up Paul Pierce's option, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.

Marc Stein on Twitter
The Celtics can pick up Pierce's option before Sunday's deadline, but it doesn't mean he's going to spend next season in Boston. Pierce could be traded at any point even if the team picks up his deal, so the real news here is that it's looking less and less likely that Pierce will simply be bought out of his contract.
Iman Shumpert ready to take bigger role 06-26-2013
Iman Shumpert G NY
Iman Shumpert is prepared to take a larger role with the Knicks if J.R. Smith departs in free agency.

New York Post
"I think I can be [a secondary scorer],'' said Shumpert. "I've always accepted all challenges. I'd take that as another challenge.'' Shumpert also confirmed that his knee is fully healthy, and he plans to use his time in summer league to "work on" his "stuff." Among the stuff he'll work on is including his ball handling and making better decisions.
