Brian Shaw will be the new Nuggets head coach 06-24-2013
Brian Shaw G LAL
Brian Shaw will be the next head coach of the Denver Nuggets, according to the Denver Post.

Denver Post
It's been a long time coming for Shaw. He's received praise from the likes of Phil Jackson and was widely viewed as one of the best assistants over the past decade. Shaw worked under Frank Vogel last season and helped take the Pacers to the Eastern Conference Finals. While the Pacers ranked 24th in pace last year, their slow tempo was more of a product of their defensive mindset and Roy Hibbert, so the Nuggets might still run a bit. One thing that should change for the Nuggets is the amount of free throws they'll be taking. George Karl's teams are always near the top for free throw attempts, which didn't make sense since they ranked 28th in free throw percentage last season. The Nuggets have talent on their roster and should be competitive in Shaw's first season.
J.R. Smith to officially opt out on Tuesday 06-24-2013
J.R. Smith G CLE
J.R. Smith will officially opt out of his contract with the Knicks on Tuesday, but he has said repeatedly that he hopes to stay in New York.

NY Daily News
Though re-signing with the Knicks is the most likely outcome, the reigning Sixth Man of the Year could leave if another team offers him an annual salary of $6 million or more, which New York probably wouldn't be able to match.
Timofey Mozgov to play for Russia this summer 06-24-2013
Timofey Mozgov C LAL
Timofey Mozgov will compete with the Russian national team during the EuroBasket tournament in September.
Mozgov has been in the NBA for three years, but he was limited to just nine minutes per game in 41 appearances with Denver last season. The 26-year-old big man is expected to receive a qualifying offer from the Nuggets, who already have JaVale McGee and Kosta Koufos at center, and there should be plenty of teams willing to sign him to an offer sheet.
Jeff Green overcoming tightness, fatigue 06-24-2013
Jeff Green F ORL
Jeff Green may always feel fatigue and chest tightness stemming from his heart surgery, but he said that he has "a much better idea of how to handle it now."

ESPN Boston
Green averaged 27.8 minutes in 81 games last season. He may never again average 37+ minutes as he did with the Thunder, but Celtics fans can afford some optimism after watching him 20.3 points per game in Boston's first-round loss to the Knicks. Green has already begun a rigorous offseason regimen, and he said that he's beginning to feel like his "old self."
Report: Nets, Wolves talk MarShon Brooks deal 06-24-2013
Marshon Brooks G LAL
The Nets have reportedly discussed a trade that would send MarShon Brooks to the Timberwolves.

NY Daily News
One source said that the talks haven't yet become "serious," but a second source said the Nets have made an offer which the Wolves need only accept. Presumably the Nets would try to acquire a PG to support Deron Williams, since current backup C.J. Watson is expected to opt for free agency. Brooklyn has also been linked to Andrei Kirilenko in the past, and it's conceivable that the deal could expand to include more players, but for now we're still merely collecting rumors.
Alexey Shved to play in EuroBasket w/ Russia 06-24-2013
Alexsey Shved G NY
Alexey Shved is expected to work out in the U.S. for "much of July" while preparing for the EuroBasket tournament.

Jerry Zgoda on Twitter
Shved joins a Russian team vying for an invite to the FIBA World Cup in 2014. The EuroBasket tourney is Sept. 4-22, and Shved will also square off against CSKA Moscow as a member of the Wolves during an exhibition match in early October. His busy summer should ensure that he'll be in good shape for training camp, though fatigue might be a concern after the All-Star break.
D-Wade reiterates he won't need knee surgery 06-24-2013
Dwyane Wade G CHI
Dwyane Wade reiterated on Monday that he doesn't need surgery on either of his knees this summer, though doctors have told him to rest for the next month.

Ira Winderman on Twitter
Wade managed his ailing knees throughout the season and the playoffs, even having his knee drained prior to Game 7 of the Finals. The biggest problems were bone bruises, which should heal with sufficient rehab and rest, but the durability of his knees will once again be a major factor in his fantasy draft position next fall.
Patty Mills opts in for 2013-14 with Spurs 06-24-2013
Patty Mills G SA
Patty Mills has decided to remain with the Spurs next season, earning $1.1 million in the final year of his contract.

Paul Garcia on Twitter
The lure of playing for a championship probably weighed in the Spurs' favor, and Mills gives them affordable insurance at PG in case Tony Parker or Cory Joseph get hurt. He's not relevant for fantasy purposes, however, as he played nothing but mop-up duty during the playoffs, and averaged 11 minutes per game in sporadic appearances last season.
Manu Ginobili suggests he'll be back w/ Spurs 06-24-2013
Manu Ginobili G SA
Manu Ginobili wrote on Monday regarding his future in the NBA, "I do not know what will happen but I feel that I want [to be] back."
Manu was understandably distraught after his performances in Games 6 and 7 of the Finals. After a few days of rest, however, he wrote, "I feel better and happy for the great season despite the outcome, and it is very hard not to go to continue playing." He averaged 11.8 points in 23 minutes per game in 2012-13, and he's unlikely to improve those numbers at age 36 next season.
Update: Deng trade rumors have 'no truth' 06-24-2013
Luol Deng F LAL
There is "no truth" to a rumored trade sending Luol Deng to the Wizards, a source tells the Washington Post.

Washington Post reports that the Bulls and Wizards had "exploratory talks" about swapping Deng for the No. 3 pick and Emeka Okafor, but it seems the Bulls made the initial offer and the Wizards weren't interested. Any deal would be contingent upon Deng agreeing to re-sign with Washington, another very high hurdle. We'll let you know if anything substantial emerges from these rumors.
Alonzo Gee likely to shift to Cavaliers bench 06-24-2013
Alonzo Gee F DEN
Alonzo Gee is likely to play a reserve role with the Cavaliers next season. The Cleveland Plain-Dealer reported in May that the Cavs view Gee "as a backup," and trade rumors have since linked them to Shawn Marion, Paul Pierce and Luol Deng. Given the Cavs' salary cap space and obvious desire to upgrade at SF, it's a safe bet that Gee will find himself coming off the bench in a diminished role.
Rick Adelman arrives for draft preparation 06-24-2013
Malcolm Huckaby G Den
Rick Adelman arrived in Minnesota on Monday to help the Wolves prepare for the draft.

Darren Wolfson on Twitter
This is yet another bit of evidence that Adelman will return as the Wolves' coach, which has been the expectation ever since the 2012-13 season ended. Minnesota has four draft picks this year, including the No. 9 pick.
Report: Wizards, Bulls explore Luol Deng swap 06-24-2013
Luol Deng F LAL
The Wizards and Bulls have "explored" a trade that would send the No. 3 pick to Chicago for Luol Deng.

ESPN True Hoop
Take this with a major grain of salt. Because a deal has been "explored" does not mean it's going to happen or is even a serious possibility. The two teams have had "exploratory" discussions on a deal, meaning they haven't gotten very far. The trade would also likely involve Emeka Okafor if consummated, but we're a long way from that happening. The Cavs are also interested in acquiring Deng.
Taylor, Shengelia, Joseph to play in summer 06-24-2013
Tyshawn Taylor G NO
Tyshawn Taylor, Toko Shengelia and Kris Joseph will all play for the Nets in summer league.

Mike Mazzeo on Twitter
All three players desperately need some real playing time and experience, so they'll hope to make an impression during summer league.
Report: Rising sense Jefferson will leave UTA 06-24-2013
Al Jefferson C IND
There is a "rising sense" that the Jazz "might" let Al Jefferson depart in free agency.

Marc Stein on Twitter
As is the case with all unrestricted free agents, there is always a chance they "might" depart if a team offers a better contract. In Utah's case, it would be a surprise if Jefferson returned considering both Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter are ready for larger roles.
Report: Shaw, Frank, McMillan in mix for C's 06-24-2013
Brian Shaw G LAL
A source told the Boston Globe that Brian Shaw, Lawrence Frank and Nate McMillan could be considered for the Celtics coaching job, among other candidates as well.

Boston Globe
It's a pretty vague report, so we're not going to put a ton of stock into it, but Boston now has to go about finding their next head coach. Shaw has earned some support for the gig, but it's not clear if there's a frontrunner at the moment. The team was also previously linked to Vinny Del Negro.
Report: Brett Brown candidate for Nuggets job 06-24-2013
Ty Lawson G SAC
Spurs assistant Brett Brown is a "serious candidate" for the Nuggets head coaching vacancy, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Yahoo! Sports
Brown traveled to Denver and met with the Nuggets CEO and GM on Sunday, and he's the fifth known candidate to meet with the team after Denver has spoken with Melvin Hunt, Brian Shaw, Lionel Hollins and Vinny Del Negro previously.
Manu Ginobili expected to return to Spurs? 06-24-2013
Manu Ginobili G SA
The "smart money" has Manu Ginobili returning to the Spurs for one more season at a discounted rate, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

San Antonio Express-News
Ginobili is unlikely to retire after the way his season ended, and he'll likely want to go out on a higher level than that. The Spurs could be an interesting player in free agency if Ginobili returns at a major discount, and that's a very real scenario considering Ginobili made more than $14 million last season.
Report: Blazers interested in Marcin Gortat 06-24-2013
Marcin Gortat C WAS
The Blazers have interest in Marcin Gortat, according to the Arizona Republic.

Arizona Republic
The nugget of information is buried in a draft preview column, so we're not sure how much legitimate interest Portland has in the big man. Regardless, the Blazers need a center, and with the Suns rebuilding, a Gortat trade between the two teams could make some sense. It's one of many rumors you will read about with Thursday's draft approaching.
Brook Lopez had screw in right foot replaced 06-24-2013
Brook Lopez C BKN
Brook Lopez had the screw in his surgically-repaired right foot replaced.

Ken Berger on Twitter
The Nets say that it was discovered "to be bent" at the end of the season in his physical, so Lopez now has a new screw in his foot. The injury is one that Lopez suffered during the 2011/12 season and should have no impact on his readiness for the start of the 2013/14 campaign.
Wolves owner: Derrick Williams likely to stay 06-24-2013
Derrick Williams F CLE
Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor said it's unlikely the team will trade Derrick Williams.

Minneapolis Star-Tribune
Despite frustrations with Williams early in his career, the team isn't ready to give up on him, and that's nice to see. "Once we got him out on the floor and he had a chance to play, he started to play better. We have to remember that he still a very young man and a player that has a lot of potential. So we may trade somebody on our team, but it's not going to be [him], unless it really would help our team," Taylor said. Despite the previous rumors, it doesn't look like Williams will go elsewhere.
Bradley Beal (leg) to be cleared in 1-2 weeks 06-24-2013
Bradley Beal G WAS
Bradley Beal is expected to be cleared to begin basketball-related activities "in the next week or two."

Washington Post
Beal's leg is healing "slowly but surely," and Beal has been frustrated by the slow healing process. "At the same time, it's something you have to be patient with. You can't really rush it," he said. "I'm definitely taking my time, doing what I need to do. Having my trainers working me out and do what I need to do and get healthy." Beal won't commit to playing during Team USA's July mini-camp, and his only focus is getting 100 percent healthy for next season.
Report: Cavs interested in Luol Deng at SF 06-24-2013
Luol Deng F LAL
The Cavs "apparently have interest" in trading for Luol Deng, a source told Ric Bucher.

Ric Bucher on Sulia
Take it with a major grain of salt considering Bucher's recent track record when it comes to reporting rumors. The report states that Deng, Danny Granger and LaMarcus Aldridge are "three veterans who are candidates to be in deals," but the same could be said of several veteran players around the league. We're not putting a ton of stock into this, but the Cavs are obviously in the market for an upgrade at small forward.
Report: BOS unlikely to buy out Paul Pierce 06-24-2013
Paul Pierce F LAC
The Celtics buying out Paul Pierce is a scenario that is "less likely" than previously, sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Yahoo! Sports
Boston has garnered enough interest in Pierce where the team could look to move him, but there is nothing even close at the moment. The Celtics need to either buy Pierce out for $5 million or pick up his $15.3 million option by June 30, so the team is quickly closing in on a time to make a decision.
Brandon Roy hints at the end of his career 06-24-2013
Brandon Roy G MIN
Updating a previous report, Brandon Roy said this weekend that his "basketball days are numbered," but he did not announce the end of his NBA career.

Blazers Edge
Roy was mistakenly quoted as saying, "My basketball days are done." The quote has since been amended but the conclusion is the same -- Roy's seven career knee surgeries will likely compel him to retire from the NBA in the near future, this time for good.
Chris Paul fully expected to extend w/ Clips 06-24-2013
Chris Paul G LAC
Doc Rivers accepted the Clippers' coaching job with "full knowledge that he'll be coaching [Chris] Paul," according to the L.A. Times.

L.A. Times
CP3 lobbied hard for the Clippers to pry Rivers away from the Celtics, and with Doc on board (assuming the NBA approves the deal on Monday) it's a given that he'll sign a maximum five-year deal this summer. His fantasy value isn't likely to change much, and will as usual hinge on his ability to stay healthy.
KG may play one more year w/ Cs, then retire 06-24-2013
Kevin Garnett PF MIN
With a trade to the Clippers looking doubtful, there is "a growing belief" that Kevin Garnett will play one more season in Boston before retiring.

Yahoo! Sports
KG will earn a guaranteed $12.4 million this season and it doesn't sound like he plans to retire. Yahoo! Sports reports that after retiring Garnett may assume a "ceremonial role" as a part-owner of the Timberwolves. If he does stay in Boston one more year, his ability to mentor younger players will be just as important as his on-court performance.
Shaun Livingston not likely to return to Cavs 06-24-2013
Shaun Livingston G GS
Shaun Livingston isn't likely to return to the Cavaliers due to the fact he's a free agent.

Cleveland Plain Dealer
It remains to be seen where he'll land, but he was effective at times while starting for the banged up Cavs last season, averaging 7.2 points and 3.6 assists while shooting 50.7 percent from the field in 49 games for Cleveland.
Jae Crowder hoping to take over as starter 06-24-2013
Jae Crowder F BOS
Jae Crowder said there's "no doubt" he's hoping to be a starter for the Mavericks next season.

Dallas Morning News
We're going through a lot of changes as an organization," Crowder said. "I'm in the gym working, and I'm going to be ready whenever that opportunity comes." The opportunity could be there for Crowder with the Shawn Marion rumored to be on the block during the draft. Crowder has been working on his jumper and could be one of the impact players in summer league. He hit 0.8 triples and had 0.8 steals in just 17.3 minutes per game last year, so keep an eye on him.
