Duda's 11th homer powers Mets to victory 06-19-2012
Lucas Duda LF NYM
Lucas Duda went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, leading the Mets to a 5-0 victory over the Orioles on Tuesday. His two run blast off Tommy Hunter in the sixth inning increased the Mets lead to 3-0, which was more than enough support for Johan Santana. Duda has settled in nicely as the cleanup hitter in the Mets lineup, hitting .259/.356/.452 on the year with 11 homers and 42 RBI.
Santana goes six shutout frames for victory 06-19-2012
Johan Santana P NYM
Johan Santana pitched brilliantly in a win over the Orioles on Tuesday, scattering four hits over six scoreless innings. He picked up five strikeouts while walking just two. Santana had struggled in each of his two outings since his no-hitter on June 1, so it was nice to see him get back on track vs. Baltimore. He's enjoying one of the better starts of his illustrious career, as he now has a 3.00 ERA and 84/28 K/BB ratio over 84 innings. Santana will look to continue his strong season when he takes on the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Monday.
Wieters has two hits in losing effort vs. NYM 06-19-2012
Matt Wieters C BAL
Matt Wieters went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles in Tuesday night's loss to the Mets. He's started to turn things around in the month of June, hitting .333 (20-for-60) with a homer and 10 RBI since the calendar flipped from May. Wieters is still one of the most talented all-around catchers in the game and should finish the year as a top-five fantasy option at the position.
Hunter blasted again in loss to Mets 06-19-2012
Tommy Hunter P BAL
Tommy Hunter was blasted again in a loss to the Mets on Tuesday, giving up five runs in 6 1/3 innings. He fanned three and walked one. Most of the damage came near the end of Hunter's night, as Lucas Duda smashed a two-run homer in the sixth inning, then Jordany Valdespin plated two more with single in the seventh. Hunter has now allowed five or more earned runs in four of his last five starts, raising his ERA to a brutal 5.70. If he remains in the rotation, he would take on the Angels at home on Tuesday. But with an off day Monday, that is far from a certainty at this point.
McCutchen collects three hits to carry Bucs 06-19-2012
Andrew McCutchen CF PIT
Andrew McCutchen tallied three hits -- including a home run and a double -- while leading the Pirates to a 7-2 victory over the Twins on Tuesday night. McCutchen filled up the box score, going 3-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base. His two-run blast off Jeff Manship in the seventh inning provided valuable insurance runs, increasing the Bucs' lead to 6-2. McCutchen has been an absolute force in 2012, batting .332 with 12 homers, 39 RBI and 14 steals.
Correia shuts down Twins to earn third win 06-19-2012
Kevin Correia P MIN
Kevin Correia stifled the Twins' offense on Tuesday night, surrendering just four hits and one walk over 5 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out one. Correia has performed capably at the back end of the Pirates' rotation to this point, compiling a 3-6 record and 4.12 ERA over 13 starts. He will try for more success when he faces the Tigers at home on Sunday.
DeJesus goes 2-for-4 with a triple and 2 RBI 06-19-2012
David DeJesus CF CHC
David DeJesus was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the White Sox. Although he's always going to be a better player in actuality than in fantasy, Dejesus can be a usable player in deeper formats with his (usual) solid average and runs scored totals. DeJesus posted a great .317/.400/.495 slash line in May and is at .261/.362/.389 for the season through 226 at-bats.
Span connects on two-run homer in loss 06-19-2012
Denard Span CF WAS
Denard Span connected on a two-run homer off Juan Cruz in Tuesday's loss to the Twins in Minnesota. Span finished the game 1-for-5. He's done a very nice job as the Twins leadoff hitter this season, hitting .285 with three homers, 18 RBI and seven steals. As a fourth or fifth outfielder in deeper leagues, he's been a tremendous value play.
Moreland diagnosed with strained left hammy 06-19-2012
Mitch Moreland 1B TEX
Mitch Moreland has been diagnosed with a strained left hamstring and is being called day-to-day.

Jeff Wilson on Twitter
Hamstring strains typically take close to two weeks of recovery time, so it seems likely that Moreland will be placed on the disabled list. He's batting .272/.326/.513 with 10 homers and 25 RBI this year.
Diamond struggles again in loss to Pirates 06-19-2012
Scott Diamond P MIN
Scott Diamond was knocked around for his second straight start on Tuesday, giving up four runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in a loss to the Pirates. Diamond walked two and struck out one in the game. After allowing a total of eight earned runs over his first seven starts, he's now allowed eight in his last two outings. He'll take a 5-3 record and 2.57 ERA into Cincinnati where he'll battle the Reds on Sunday.
LoMo homers, drives in five in loss to Boston 06-19-2012
Logan Morrison LF MIA
Logan Morrison finished 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Red Sox. LoMo hit a two-run shot in the first inning, an RBI double in the third inning and a two-run double in the fifth inning. The big night lifted his OPS from .680 to .721.
Marmol hurls perfect inning for fourth save 06-19-2012
Carlos Marmol P CHC
Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless ninth Tuesday to earn his fourth save against the White Sox. Marmol struck out a batter but walked another. Cubs manager Dale Sveum reinstated Marmol into the closing role last week, a decision that made sense on a lot of levels, not the least of which was Chicago's vested interest in trading him next month. Perhaps Marmol will be able to rebuild his trade value to the point that another organization will take him (and a portion of his 2013 salary) on at the deadline. The Dominican Republic native has posted four consecutive scoreless outings.
Peavy hurls complete game in tough-luck loss 06-19-2012
Jake Peavy P CWS
Jake Peavy hurled a complete game in a tough-luck loss against the Cubs, allowing two runs -- one earned -- on Tuesday. He gave up only five hits and a walk, striking out five. He got no help from Chicago's offense in his second straight start and fell to 6-3 on the year. The veteran right-hander has shockingly turned into a Cy Young contender and currently owns a stellar 2.74 ERA and 0.94 WHIP.
Asdrubal Cabrera hits walkoff HR off Chapman 06-19-2012
Asdrubal Cabrera SS CLE
Asrubal Cabrera delivered a walk-off two-run homer off Aroldis Chapman, leading the Indians to a come from behind 3-2 victory over the Reds on Tuesday. Cabrera finished the night 2-for-5 with those crucial two RBI. He's enjoying another terrific season at the plate, hitting .301 with seven homers and 28 RBI. His 29/29 K/BB ratio also hits at a strong improvement in his overall plate discipline, meaning there's a good chance that his increase in batting average is sustainable.
Jose Valverde injures wrist while warming up 06-19-2012
Jose Valverde P DET
Jose Valverde injured his right wrist Tuesday while warming up in the bottom of the eighth inning.

MLBlogs.com
That explains why Phil Coke, and not Valverde, closed out Tuesday's win over the Cardinals. The Tigers' ninth-inning man felt the wrist discomfort immediately when he started warming up and tried to throw another pitch but couldn't. Initial tests by the team's training staff suggest the ailment isn't serious, but Valverde left for the hospital to undergo an MRI. If he has to miss time, Joaquin Benoit would figure to see most of the save chances, though Coke could be used when matchups dictate it.
Tomlin solid in no-decision vs. Reds 06-19-2012
Josh Tomlin P CLE
Josh Tomlin pitched well in a no-decision against the Reds on Tuesday, allowing just one run in 6 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out two. The lone run that Tomlin allowed came across in the first inning on an RBI single from Chris Heisey, who barely beat the throw at first base. Tomlin remains 3-4 on the season, and his 5.12 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings have little-to-no use in most fantasy formats. He'll get the Yankees next.
Chapman allows walkoff HR as Reds lose 06-19-2012
Aroldis Chapman P CIN
Aroldis Chapman served up a walk-off two-run homer to Asdrubal Cabrera in the 10th inning on Tuesday. A devastating turn of events for the Reds, who took the lead by scoring in the top half of the inning. The once seemingly invincible Chapman has now been scored upon in four of his last six outings, picking up three losses in the process. With a 1.57 ERA, it's not time to panic yet, but if he continues to struggle it wouldn't be shocking to see manager Dusty Baker hand some of the save opportunities back to Sean Marshall.
Mitch Moreland leaves with hamstring injury 06-19-2012
Mitch Moreland 1B TEX
Mitch Moreland left Tuesday's game with a left hamstring injury.

Jeff Wilson on Twitter
It's unclear at this point how severe the ailment is. Michael Young replaced Moreland at first base.
Cozart has three hits in losing effort 06-19-2012
Zack Cozart SS CIN
Zack Cozart had a nice night at the plate in Tuesday's loss to the Indians, going 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Cozart is enjoying a fairly solid season hitting atop the Reds lineup, hitting .266 with seven homers, 40 runs scored, 15 RBI and two steals. While he isn't driving in as many runs or stealing as many bases as expected, he's scoring runs at a tremendous pace, generating plenty of mixed league value.
Dustin Pedroia 'more fearful than injured' 06-19-2012
Dustin Pedroia 2B BOS
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Dustin Pedroia (thumb) left Tuesday's game because he was "more fearful than he was injured."

WEEI.com
Valentine hadn't talked to Pedroia yet but was relaying a conversation the second baseman had with general manager Ben Cherington. It's a little comforting that he probably didn't badly aggravate the torn adductor muscle in his right thumb, but we'll know more after Pedroia is re-evaluated Wednesday.
Leake strong again in no-decision 06-19-2012
Mike Leake P CIN
Mike Leake turned in another very strong performance against the Indians on Tuesday, giving up just one run on six hits over seven innings of work. Leake fanned four and walked one on the night. Over his last seven starts, Leake is now 2-0 with a 2.93 ERA , 1.23 WHIP and 37/10 K/BB ratio over 43 innings. His 2-5 record and 4.70 ERA might scare some owners away, but if available, Leake should continue to provide solid returns. He's lined up for a pair of starts next week, taking on the Brewers at home on Monday then squaring off against the Giants in San Francisco over the weekend.
Pena's two-run homer powers Rays over Nats 06-19-2012
Carlos Pena 1B HOU
Carlos Pena belted a two-run homer on Tuesday, helping to lead the Rays to a 5-4 victory over the Nationals. He finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. His two-run blast in the third inning put the Rays on top 3-2, and was a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Pena has been mired in an awful slump, hitting just .158 (23-for-146) with five homers and 16 RBI in 44 games since May 1st. He's an extremely streaky hitter though, and when he's going right can carry a team on his back. Fantasy owners would be wise to wait until he gets going a bit before starting him, then ride the hot streak.
Butler jacks another homer in win over Astros 06-19-2012
Billy Butler DH KC
Billy Butler went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Astros. The Royals didn't have the luxury of the DH under National League rules, but Butler drew the start, with Eric Hosmer heading to the bench. One of the best pure hitters in the league, he's shown an improved power stroke this year with 13 homers and 41 RBI. Butler -- batting .303/.369/.515 -- has been one of fantasy's better bargains.
Hochevar shuts down Astros with 7 SO innings 06-19-2012
Luke Hochevar P KC
Luke Hochevar bested the Astros on Tuesday, yielding five harmless hits in 7 2/3 shutout innings. He struck out six and walked four. Needless to say, this was Hochevar's best outing of the season. Outside of this evening and a mid-May seven-inning shutout performance against the White Sox, he's been pretty terrible. The aforementioned outing dropped his ERA from 9.00 to 7.20. This evening's start slashed his ERA from 6.27 to 5.65. Hochevar is talented and confounding. While we wouldn't trust him outside of AL-only formats, his peripherals suggested a big bounce back even before this appearance. We think he'll be a stream option in mixed leagues before the summer ends.
Rodriguez decent in loss to the Royals 06-19-2012
Wandy Rodriguez P PIT
Wandy Rodriguez allowed two runs on six hits over seven innings Tuesday, taking a loss against the Royals. He struck out three and gave up two walks. It wasn't a bad start, but Houston's offense was rendered dormant against Royals starter Luke Hochevar in the shutout. Rodriguez has had difficulty punching out batters in June. Over four starts this month, he has just 11 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings. His ERA has jumped from 2.49 to 3.29 in that stretch, though most of that damage came in a disaster outing (seven earned runs) against the Reds on June 2.
Price downs Nationals to earn 9th victory 06-19-2012
David Price P TB
David Price picked up his ninth victory of the season on Tuesday, limiting the Nationals to three runs on six hits over seven strong innings of work. Price struck out four and walked one. Mike Morse's two-run blast in the sixth inning was the big blow against him. It was a nice rebound performance for the Rays left-hander, who got pounded by the Mets at home last week. He'll take a 9-4 record and 3.08 ERA into his next start against the Phillies.
Justin Verlander wins seventh 06-19-2012
Justin Verlander P DET
Justin Verlander was solid against the Cardinals on Tuesday, allowing three runs -- one earned -- on five hits and four walks over seven innings in a 6-3 win. Verlander struck out just three, marking the first time since June of 2010 that he had more walks than strikeouts in a game. His third punchout came on the last pitch he threw, as he whiffed Allen Craig to strand the bases loaded in the seventh. Verlander will carry a 2.57 ERA and 0.57 WHIP into this weekend's start in Pittsburgh.
Morse collects first home run in loss to Rays 06-19-2012
Michael Morse RF SEA
Mike Morse smashed his first home run of the 2012 season in a loss to the Rays on Tuesday night. Morse finished 2-for-4 with two RBI. His two-run shot off David Price brought the Nationals to within 5-4 in the sixth inning, but they were unable to score the remainder of the evening. Morse has now hit safely in six of his last seven games, and looks to finally be getting his timing back. Remember, he struggled mightily in the early part of 2011 before going on an absolute tear en route to 31 homers.
Derek Holland to throw bullpen session 06-19-2012
Derek Holland P TEX
Derek Holland (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday.

Jeff Wilson on Twitter
It will be the first time he's thrown from the bump since landing on the disabled list. Holland is expected to make at least one rehab start before rejoining the Rangers' rotation later this month.
Phil Coke records save 06-19-2012
Phil Coke P DET
Phil Coke nailed down his first save of the season Tuesday, tossing a perfect inning while striking out one in a win over the Cardinals. Jose Valverde hadn't pitched since Friday, but Tigers manager Jim Leyland elected to go with Coke with three left-handed batters due up. The Cards pinch-hit two right-handed batters, but Coke still notched a 1-2-3 frame. It's a noteworthy development, but we're not expecting a closer controversy in Detroit.
Wang hammered in loss to Rays 06-19-2012
Chien-Ming Wang P TOR
Chien-Ming Wang was hammered by the Rays on Tuesday to the tune of five runs on seven hits in just 3 1/3 innings of work. Wang struck out one and walked three in the abbreviated outing. Most of the damage came in the third inning, when Carlos Pena blasted a two-run homer and Elliot Johnson added a two-out, two-run triple. Wang is now 2-3 with a 6.10 ERA in 20 2/3 innings this season. The Nationals may be better-served with Ross Detwiler in the rotation, which would mean shifting Wang to a long-relief role. The 32-year-old will attempt to get back on track when he takes on the Orioles in Baltimore on Sunday.
Lance Lynn struggles 06-19-2012
Lance Lynn P STL
Lance Lynn was shaky in a loss to the Tigers on Tuesday night in Detroit, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks over just five innings of work. It was billed as a big matchup between Lynn and reigning AL MVP Justin Verlander, but Lynn responded with arguably his worst start of the season. He needed 102 pitches to cover the five frames. Still with a tidy 2.80 ERA and 1.15 WHIP, Lynn will look to rebound this weekend in Kansas City.
Kimbrel pitches perfect ninth for 20th save 06-19-2012
Craig Kimbrel P ATL
Craig Kimbrel retired the Yankees in order in the ninth inning Tuesday, preserving a 4-3 lead and picking up his 20th save of the season. Kimbrel has been flat out dominant again this year, converting 20-of-21 save chances while registering a 1.38 ERA and 43/10 K/BB ratio over 26 innings. While there may be others in the conversation, Kimbrel sure seems like the best closer in MLB.
Delmon Young drives in a pair 06-19-2012
Delmon Young LF PHI
Delmon Young went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in Tuesday's win over the Cardinals. Young now has a modest seven-game hitting streak going, though only two of his 10 hits have gone for extra bases. His batting average has been raised to .265. And he also has five home runs and 24 RBI.
Heyward has two hits, plates winning run 06-19-2012
Jason Heyward RF ATL
Jason Heyward had a nice night at the dish in Tuesday's 4-3 victory over the Yankees, going 2-for-3 while driving home the game-winning run. Heyward tripled off Hiroki Kuroda to lead off the third inning, then scored the Braves' first run on an RBI groundout from Andrelton Simmons. Heyward's RBI single in the sixth inning scored Brian McCann, breaking a 3-3 tie and ultimately serving as the game-deciding tally. He still needs to cut down on the strikeouts (60 in 225 at-bats), but the 22-year-old is batting a decent .258/.337/.453 with eight homers, 31 RBI and 10 steals.
Tim Hudson shaky in victory over Yankees 06-19-2012
Tim Hudson P ATL
Tim Hudson struggled with his command against the Yankees on Tuesday but allowed only three runs (two earned) on four hits and five walks over five innings. He did manage to rack up five strikeouts, but the poor control led to an elevated pitch count of 109 -- forcing Hudson to leave after just five innings. Nick Swisher's two-run double in the second inning was the biggest blow. Hudson has pitched fairly well since his return from the disabled list, registering a 5-3 record and 3.88 ERA over 65 innings. He'll go in search of his sixth victory when he takes on the Diamondbacks at home on Tuesday.
Swisher drives home two in loss to Braves 06-19-2012
Nick Swisher 1B CLE
In his second game back from the DL, Nick Swisher went 2-for-3 with a double and pair of RBI in a 4-3 loss to the Braves on Tuesday. Swisher has played the entirety of both games in right field and hasn't complained of any lingering soreness in his left quadriceps. He continues to be a very solid run producer at the bottom of the Yankees lineup, hitting .267 with 10 homers and 42 RBI.
Kuroda has decent outing in loss to Braves 06-19-2012
Hiroki Kuroda P NYY
Hiroki Kuroda pitched a decent game in Tuesday's loss to the Braves, giving up four runs on six hits over seven innings. Kuroda punched out six and walked three in the game. He's started to solidify himself as an every week start in most mixed leagues, as he's now 3-1 with a 2.06 ERA and 28/8 K/BB ratio over his last five starts, spanning 35 innings. He'll look to continue his strong month of June when he battles against the Indians at home on Monday.
Danny Hultzen promoted to Triple-A 06-19-2012
Danny Hultzen P SEA
Mariners pitching prospect Danny Hultzen has been promoted to Triple-A Tacoma.

Ryan Divish on Twitter
It's about time. Hultzen posted a microscopic 1.19 ERA and 79/32 K/BB ratio over 75 1/3 innings at Double-A to earn the promotion. It shouldn't be long before the former No. 2 overall pick finds himself in the Mariners' rotation. Shortstop prospect Nick Franklin has also been promoted to Triple-A.
Erik Kratz optioned 06-19-2012
Erik Kratz C PHI
Phillies optioned C Erik Kratz to Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He didn't receive an at-bat in his latest stint with the Phils. A corresponding roster move will be announced prior to Wednesday's game.
Peralta ejected for substance on glove 06-19-2012
Joel Peralta P TB
Joel Peralta was ejected from Tuesday's game for having a foreign substance on his glove.

Marc Topkin on Twitter
Interesting. Nationals manager Davey Johnson had the umpire crew check Peralta's glove before the eighth inning even started, and he was sent to the showers after an investigation was completed. Peralta played for the Nats in 2010, which makes you think they knew going into the game that he usually has a little something on his glove. We probably haven't heard the end of this story.
Ruiz homers, plates three to lead Phillies 06-19-2012
Carlos Ruiz C PHI
Carlos Ruiz hit his ninth homer of the year on Tuesday, powering the Phillies to a 7-2 win over the Rockies. Ruiz finished the night 2-for-4 with a homer, a double and three RBI. The 33-year-old backstop looks like one of the strongest offensive catchers in the entire league, hitting a blistering .358 with nine homers and 38 RBI on the season. He should also be named to his first-ever All-Star team in just a couple of weeks.
Hamels strikes out seven in defeat of Rockies 06-19-2012
Cole Hamels P PHI
Cole Hamels turned in a nice effort in Tuesday's victory over the Rockies, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks, while fanning seven in eight innings of work. After starting the season strong, Hamels had been fighting it a bit as of late, with a 6.08 ERA and 1.28 WHIP over his last four starts heading into Tuesday's matchup. After allowing an RBI single to Tyler Colvin in the first inning, he settled in nicely, recording five consecutive strikeouts at one point. He'll take a 10-3 record and 3.25 ERA into his next start, which comes against the Rays at home on Sunday.
Colvin drives in run in loss to Phillies 06-19-2012
Tyler Colvin RF COL
Tyler Colvin, starting in place of the injured Carlos Gonzalez, went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies. He's done a very nice job in a part-time role for the Rockies, hitting .295 with seven homers and 21 RBI in just 129 at-bats. The Rockies clearly look like the early winner in their off-season swap that sent D.J. LeMahieu to the Cubs.
Jonathan Lucroy to have cast removed 06-19-2012
Jonathan Lucroy C MLW
Jonathan Lucroy will have the cast from his right hand removed Wednesday.

Brewers.mlb.com
Doctors will then determine the progress of a fractured bone below his pinkie finger. Lucroy is expected to be cleared to catch bullpen sessions but won't be able to hit until the bone is completely healed. "It's going to be nice to get back to do some baseball stuff," Lucroy said. "I know they're going to do it slowly, progress slowly, because we don't want to re-injure it and make it worse. I'm pretty happy, I'm not going to lie to you, to get this stupid thing off."
Outman struggles in loss to Phillies 06-19-2012
Josh Outman P COL
Josh Outman struggled in a loss to the Phillies on Tuesday, surrendering four runs on five hits in just 4 1/3 innings of work. Outman fanned three and walked two in the game. With as abysmal as the entire Rockies rotation has been this season, manager Jim Tracy said he would go with a four-man rotation, with each starter limited to 75 pitches per start. He held true to that with Outman in this one, as he turned it over to the bullpen after throwing 72 pitches. Assuming the new schedule for the rotation, Outman will take his 0-3 record and 8.41 ERA into Arlington on Saturday where he's likely to be pounded by the Rangers. Avoid this entire rotation at all costs in fantasy leagues.
Pedroia exits after aggravating thumb injury 06-19-2012
Dustin Pedroia 2B BOS
Dustin Pedroia left Tuesday's game after appearing to aggravate his right thumb injury.

Uh oh. Pedroia appeared to hurt himself during a broken bat pop-up and was seen shaking his hand afterwards before heading straight to the clubhouse. An update on his status should be available shortly. Nick Punto replaced him at second base.
Jeff Karstens has nice rehab start 06-19-2012
Jeff Karstens P PIT
Jeff Karstens (shoulder) spun seven innings of one-run ball in a rehab start with Double-A Altoona Tuesday, allowing just six hits and a walk while striking out five. It's a nice rebound outing after he had to be shut down for a week with a strained hip flexor. Pirates manager Clint Hurdle has said he's expecting Karstens back around July 1, but perhaps they'll push that timetable up after tonight's showing.
Matt Joyce leaves with back tightness 06-19-2012

The assumption has been that Utley would use all 20 days before returning in early July, but it sounds like late June is a possibility. Utley played second base Monday for the first time during his rehab assignment and got through it without any setbacks.
Roy Halladay 'symptom-free' 06-19-2012
Roy Halladay P PHI
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said Roy Halladay (shoulder) is "symptom-free in his throwing program."

Phillies.mlb.com
He's only playing catch thus far, but at least he hasn't had any setbacks. It's not clear when Halladay will be cleared to throw from a mound, but it shouldn't be too long in the future. He's not expected back before the All-Star break.
Drew Hutchison likely to need surgery 06-19-2012
Drew Hutchison P TOR
Richard Griffin of the Toronto Star writes that surgery on Drew Hutchison's right elbow is a "strong possibility."

Toronto Star
A second opinion from Dr. Timothy Kremchek has confirmed the original diagnosis of a sprained ulnar collateral ligament. The problem, though, is that the ligament could become worse during exercise and rehab, and Hutchison would wind up going under the knife months from now. "That's probably the scenarios that he's walking through, once the information is collected," Blue Jays manager John Farrell said. "To best determine what to do next. I'm not saying that's completely ruled out, but at this point he probably needs a day or two to work through on his own behalf and certainly discussing things with his family."
Carpenter may be ready for Detroit series 06-19-2012
Matt Carpenter 2B STL
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny is unsure if Matt Carpenter (oblique) will be ready to join the Cardinals for the current series in Detroit.

Cardinals.mlb.com
Carpenter has moved his rehab from Triple-A Memphis to Double-A Springfield since Memphis was idle Monday. He's played four games and should be ready soon, though it's probably likelier that he'll join the team in Kansas City on Friday.
Johnny Damon out with sore back 06-19-2012
Johnny Damon LF CLE
Johnny Damon is not in Tuesday's lineup due to lower back soreness.

Indians.mlb.com
Damon on Monday ran into the wall and was charged with a two-base error that allowed Brandon Phillips to score. "He was pretty banged up after that one," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "He was pretty sore in the lower back area. He's played a few games in a row, too. We'll try to give him a day off." It sounds like Damon has a good shot to return to action Wednesday.
Mets consider R.A. Dickey on three days' rest 06-19-2012
R.A. Dickey P TOR
Mets manager Terry Collins said he's considered using R.A. Dickey on three days' rest.

ESPN New York
Collins has scrapped the idea for now but wouldn't rule out doing it at some point. "Maybe we were gonna try it for a month, to see if it'll work," Collins said. "We just haven't been brave enough to try it just yet, because I think it just screws up the other (four) guys." We can understand the Mets wanting to get Dickey on the mound as much as possible, and, as a knuckleballer, he'd probably have a better shot at pulling it off. But, we'd be surprised if they messed with Dickey's schedule right now.
Matt Capps unavailable Tuesday 06-19-2012
Matt Capps P CLE
Matt Capps (shoulder) is unavailable out of the Twins' bullpen Tuesday.

St. Paul Pioneer Press
"He feels good enough, but we're not going to use him," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "We're going to back him up another day at least, maybe two. We want him to be healthy, and he's not totally there yet." Gardy will go with a combination of Jared Burton and Glen Perkins in the eighth and ninth innings, depending on matchups.

Bartolo Colon (oblique) likely to land on DL 06-19-2012
Bartolo Colon P OAK
Athletics manager Bob Melvin said he's "pretty certain" Bartolo Colon (oblique) will be placed on the disabled list.

Susan Slusser on Twitter
The A's don't have to make a move with him for a couple days since they won't need a starter until Saturday, but it appears inevitable. It's not clear who will take his spot in the rotation, but Tyson Ross is an obvious option.
Jemile Weeks nursing leg soreness 06-19-2012
Jemile Weeks 2B OAK
Jemile Weeks has been batting second lately partly due to some leg soreness.

Joe Stiglich on Twitter
It's also presumably a big reason why Weeks hasn't stolen a base since mid-May. It doesn't appear that he'll need a stint on the disabled list, but don't expect him to run wild anytime soon.
Jarrod Parker pushed back to Friday 06-19-2012

Michael Morse RF SEA
The struggling Michael Morse asked Nationals manager Davey Johnson after Sunday's game to be moved down in the batting order, but Johnson declined his request.

Washington Post
"You're not killing the team," Johnson replied, according to his recollection. "You're going to be fine. You're going to be carrying us in a minute. I'm not worried. So I don't want you worrying." Morse has batted fourth or fifth in every game since coming off the DL and is in the cleanup spot Tuesday. The 30-year-old is batting just .211/.246/.281 with no homers but is due to get hot eventually.

Bartolo Colon P OAK
Bartolo Colon said he feels "the same" as felt Sunday when he suffered his oblique injury.

Jack Magruder on Twitter
Young has just two hits in his last 27 at-bats and owns an underwhelming .230/.331/.413 slash line on the year. Rox move struggling Jeremy Guthrie to 'pen 06-19-2012
Jeremy Guthrie P KC
Jeremy Guthrie is being moved to the bullpen.

Jorge Arangure on Twitter
Guthrie went from Opening Day starter to long relief man in just under three months. The 33-year-old right-hander registered an awful 7.02 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 11 starts for Colorado, fanning just 30 batters and walking 23 in 59 innings of work. He can obviously be dropped in all fantasy formats -- if he was ever owned in the first place.
Herndon 'on way toward' Tommy John surgery 06-19-2012
David Herndon P NYY
According to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki, David Herndon "could be on his way toward Tommy John surgery."

Todd Zolecki on Twitter
Herndon has been out of commission since late April with a strained muscle in his pitching elbow. It's not getting any better through rest and rehab, and the right-hander may have no other choice but to go under the knife. Tommy John reconstructive surgery would keep him sidelined through most of the 2013 season.

Todd Zolecki on Twitter
Stutes has been on the disabled list since April 22 with soreness in his right shoulder and has failed to make much progress. The procedure could provide answers, but will obviously push his timetable back significantly.

Nationals making Ryan Perry a starter 06-19-2012
Ryan Perry P WAS
The Nationals have sent Ryan Perry to Double-A Harrisburg to begin working him as a starter.

Adam Kilgore on Twitter
Perry failed to make much of an impression as a reliever this year in Washington, posting a rough 10.13 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in seven appearances. The former first-round pick of the Tigers was a starter in college and possesses a big arm. It seems like an experiment worth trying.
Pineda (shoulder) to begin throwing mid-Sept. 06-19-2012
Michael Pineda P NYY
Michael Pineda (shoulder) is aiming to begin a throwing program around the middle of September.

White Sox recall Dylan Axelrod 06-19-2012
Dylan Axelrod P CWS
White Sox recalled RHP Dylan Axelrod from Triple-A Charlotte. Axelrod has posted a cool 3.18 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 66/18 K/BB ratio in 68 innings this season at the Triple-A level, and he's also had some past success in the bigs. He might be a decent option in AL-only leagues if the Pale Hose grant him a start.
White Sox option Stewart to AAA 06-19-2012
Zach Stewart P CWS
White Sox optioned RHP Zach Stewart to Triple-A Charlotte. Stewart has registered an ugly 6.00 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 30 innings this season for Chicago. The 25-year-old right-hander will try to work on his craft against a lesser level of competition at the Triple-A level.

Chris Archer P TB
Chris Archer will be called up to make his major league debut Wednesday against the Nationals.

Marc Topkin on Twitter
Archer was acquired from the Cubs in January 2011 in a package deal involving Matt Garza. The former fifth-round pick has registered a poor 4.81 ERA this season at the Triple-A level, but he's fanned 90 batters in 76 2/3 innings. Archer has swing-and-miss stuff, and may be an option in AL-only fantasy leagues vs. Washington.
Hellickson hits DL with shoulder fatigue 06-19-2012
Jeremy Hellickson P TB
Rays placed RHP Jeremy Hellickson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 15, with shoulder fatigue. After his last start -- in which Hellickson was torched for eight runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Mets on Thursday -- we wondered if the aberration was tied to shoulder soreness and that turned out to be the case. The outing caused his ERA to jump from 2.65 to 3.45. Barring a setback, or further damage revealed, we'd only expect Hellickson to miss two turns in the rotation before returning.

Scott Kazmir P CLE
Scott Kazmir is expected to sign with the independent Sugarland Skeeters later this week, reports FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Ken Rosenthal on Twitter
Kazmir, a former prized arm, has just about hit rock bottom. The 28-year-old failed to garner so much as a minor league contract over the winter, forcing him to move back to his native Texas and resume his career in obscurity. The former Mets farmhand and Rays stalwart has a 5.54 ERA over 55 major league starts dating back to the 2009 season.
Red Sox place Podsednik on the 15-day DL 06-19-2012
Scott Podsednik LF BOS
Red Sox placed OF Scott Podsednik on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left groin. Podsednik hurt himself during Sunday night's game against the Cubs while grounding into a double play in the fifth inning. Red Sox activate OF Ross from the DL 06-19-2012
Cody Ross RF ARZ
Red Sox activated OF Cody Ross from the 15-day disabled list. The 31-year-old outfielder was batting .271/.349/.534 with eight home runs and 28 RBI in 37 games before fracturing his foot on May 18. Boston could certainly use that production in its perennially-depleted outfield. Ross is an asset in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Cashman wants new deals for Cano, Granderson 06-19-2012
Robinson Cano 2B NYY
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday that he wants to sign Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson to long-term contracts.

SNY Blog Network
Robinson Cano hired Scott Boras as his agent over the offseason but insisted that he's not looking for a contract extension. Both players are under team control through next season, so there isn't immediate pressure to get something done. Cashman said no contract extension talks had taken place with either player as of yet. Hal Steinbrenner wants to keep the team's payroll beneath the luxury tax threshold, so it will be interesting to see how the club maneuvers over the next few winters to adhere to that directive. Both Cano and Granderson, obviously, will require huge contracts to stay in the Big Apple.
RP Kimball (shoulder) to begin rehab assign. 06-19-2012
Cole Kimball P WAS
Cole Kimball (shoulder) has joined Washington's GCL club to begin a rehab assignment.

Amanda Comak on Twitter
Kimball underwent major shoulder surgery last July and appears to be slightly ahead of schedule in his recovery. He posted an 1.93 ERA and 11/11 K/BB ratio over 14 innings with the Nationals last season. The 26-year-old right-hander will likely be stationed at Triple-A Syracuse once he returns to full health, though he could potentially reach Washington when rosters expand in September if everything breaks right.
Nationals sign Koyie Hill to minors deal 06-19-2012
Koyie Hill C MIA
Nationals signed C Koyie Hill to a minor league contract. Hill must be approaching some sort of record. Washington will be the fourth National League club that has employed him this season. The 33-year-old spent spring training with the Cardinals, signed a minor league deal with the Reds in April and was dealt to the Cubs three weeks later. Chicago DFA's Hill last week, he passed through waivers and refused an assignment to Triple-A. That story is far more interesting than the player who hit just .179 with a .385 OPS in 39 plate appearances with the Cubs. Regardless of whether or not he works his way back to the majors this year, he has zero fantasy value.
Danks could begin rehab assignment in 3 weeks 06-19-2012
John Danks P CWS
John Danks (shoulder) will begin a strengthening program on Friday and is tentatively scheduled to begin a rehabilitation assignment in three-to-four weeks.

Scott Merkin on Twitter
The White Sox announced that Danks was officially diagnosed with a mild Grade 1 strain of the subscapularis muscle in his left shoulder. Earlier, reports stated that Danks had torn the muscle, but strains are sometimes described as tears in medical parlance. The southpaw hasn't pitched for nearly a month due to left shoulder soreness and the best-case scenario for his return appears to be late-July. An August activation seems more likely.
Brewers designate Conrad for assignment 06-19-2012
Brooks Conrad 3B TB
Brewers designated INF Brooks Conrad for assignment. With a hideous .075/.136/.225 line through 44 plate appearances, the 32-year-old was just taking up a spot on Milwaukee's bench better allocated elsewhere. Outside of a stretch in 2010 with the Braves, Conrad has never hit in the majors. He is also not a good defender. He'll draw no interest on waivers.
Brewers promote Thornburg for Tuesday start 06-19-2012
Tyler Thornburg P MLW
Brewers purchased the contract of RHP Tyler Thornburg from Double-A Huntsville. The consensus fourth-best prospect in Milwaukee's system by Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus, Thornburg has been blowing away hitters on the farm all year, posting an 8-1 record with a 3.00 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 71/24 K/BB ratio over 75 innings. A third-round pick in the 2010 draft, Thornburg has a big arm but may profile better to the 'pen long-term. For now, however, he is taking the place of the injured Shawn Marcum, who doesn't yet have a timetable to return. In other words, if Thornburg is impressive against Toronto Tuesday, he'll extend his stay in the majors by at least another week. NL-only owners should monitor the start.
Tigers activate RHP Dotel from DL 06-19-2012
Octavio Dotel P DET
Tigers activated RHP Octavio Dotel from the 15-day disabled list. Dotel hasn't pitched since June 2 while suffering from right elbow inflammation. Tigers option RHP Weber to Triple-A 06-19-2012

Tigers optioned RHP Thad Weber to Triple-A Toledo. The 27-year-old right-hander returns to a 3.73 ERA and 58/13 K/BB ratio over 60 1/3 innings this year at the Triple-A level. Weber isn't much of a prospect, but he has already had two brief stints with the Tigers this season. He'll be back later this summer.
Cherington doesn't deny Youkilis trade talks 06-19-2012
Kevin Youkilis 3B NYY
Red Sox GM Ben Cherington refused comment on specific talks he's had with teams about Kevin Youkilis, but he didn't deny that discussions have taken place.

Nick Cafardo on Twitter
On Monday, Ken Rosenthal and Jon Morosi of FOXSports.com reported that Boston was stepping up efforts to move Youkilis. A high-ranking official with a National League club told the duo that Youkilis is "being shopped everywhere." The Diamondbacks, White Sox, Dodgers, Indians and Pirates are amongst teams with interest in the veteran corner infielder. Youkilis is batting a measly .215/.301/.341 during another injury-plagued season while being paid $12 million, so we don't imagine that the Red Sox will get much in return unless they're willing to eat a good portion of Youkilis' salary.
Report: Darwin Barney drawing trade interest 06-19-2012
Darwin Barney 2B CHC
According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, "rival clubs frequently ask about (Darwin Barney)," but the Cubs have not yet received an offer that they view as commensurate value.

FOXSports.com
Chicago is apparently viewing Barney as a long-term regular at second base, while we can only infer that interested parties are offering deals that peg him as a future utility man. While pretty much the entire Cub roster is available, Barney, 26, certainly won't be looked at as a "must move" by Theo Epstein and Jud Hoyer.
Cardinals option Cleto to Triple-A 06-19-2012

Reimold's (neck) season in jeopardy? 06-19-2012
Nolan Reimold LF BAL
Orioles manager Buck Showalter reiterated that Nolan Reimold (neck) has been ruled out through the All-Star Break.

MLB.com
Showalter wants to see the results of a second opinion from a cervical specialist before he will speculate further, but the clear insinuation here is that Reimold's season is potentially in jeopardy. The 28-year-old outfielder hasn't played since early May due to a herniated disk in his neck. An MRI Thursday showed that the disk had shrunk.
Prior impressing at Triple-A Pawtucket 06-19-2012
Mark Prior P NYY
Mark Prior allowed his first two runs for Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday, but also recorded four strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings of work.

Alex Speier on WEEI.com
Prior has now punched out a remarkable 19 hitters in just eight innings of work, while walking five. 79% of the outs he's recorded (19-of-24) have now come via the strikeout. He's been able to command all of his pitches effectively, his velocity has sat consistently in the 90-93 range, and his devastating curveball appears to have returned. He's getting closer to the point where he may be deemed major league ready, which would be one heck of a story considering the injuries he's had to battle through.
Rays recall Thompson from Triple-A 06-19-2012
Rich Thompson LF TB
Rays recalled OF Rich Thompson from Triple-A Durham. The 33-year-old, shipped from the Phillies to the Rays in a minor mid-May trade, can play all three outfield positions. He went just 1-for-16 (.063) with two stolen bases in his first taste of the big leagues earlier this season (Thompson played in 1,388 games in the minors before cracking Tampa Bay's roster), however, and should be ignored in all formats.
Orioles have strong interest in Saunders 06-19-2012
Joe Saunders P SEA
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports the Orioles "appear to be the team most interested" in trading for Joe Saunders.

FOXSports.com
The Orioles pursued Saunders as a free agent last offseason, and could be close to making an offer with top-prospect Trevor Bauer expected to be promoted. Rosenthal notes that the Diamondbacks could use a six-man starting rotation with Bauer before deciding whether to trade Saunders.
With Weaver's return, Haren pushed to Friday 06-19-2012
Dan Haren P WAS
Dan Haren's next start has been pushed back to Friday against the Dodgers.

Victor Rojas on Twitter
An extra couple days of rest surely couldn't hurt Haren, who has been hit especially hard in his last two outings. He's just 4-7 on the season with a 3.97 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, which are far cries from the dominating numbers we're used to seeing. While his xFIP (3.69) looks slightly better, and his home run rate should regress, his command has been erratic and he's been far too hittable.

Brad Eldred has signed with the Hiroshima Carp of Japan's Central League.

M-Live.com

Brett Gardner CF NYY
Brett Gardner (elbow) is hopeful that he will be able to return to the Yankees lineup shortly after the All-Star break.

MLB.com
Manager Joe Giradi agreed that the timetable seemed realistic for Gardner's return, who has been out since April 17th with a strained elbow. When healthy, he's a dynamic catalyst in the Yankee lineup and his presence has surely been missed to this point in the season.
Tejada (quad) set to move rehab to Buffalo 06-19-2012
Ruben Tejada SS NYM
Ruben Tejada (quad) is expected to move his rehab assignment Thursday to Triple-A Buffalo.

Adam Rubin on Twitter
Tejada has been sidelined since early May with a quad strain, but this is obviously notable progress. He's already had a couple setbacks, so the Mets aren't likely to rush him back.
Cedeno (calf) expected to come off DL Friday 06-19-2012
Ronny Cedeno SS HOU
Ronny Cedeno (calf) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Friday.

Adam Rubin on Twitter

Trout swipes three bases in loss to Giants 06-19-2012
Mike Trout CF LAA
Mike Trout went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and three stolen bases in Monday's loss to the Giants. Impressively, Trout now leads the American League with 19 stolen bases, even though he spent a month in the minor leagues and has played in just 46 games. His .323/.383/.511 would be tremendous for any player, let alone someone who's just 20-years-old. He surely looks poised for super-stardom.
Bay (concussion) not close to returning 06-19-2012
Jason Bay LF SEA
Jason Bay (concussion) remains without a timetable.

New York Post
The Mets still don't know the severity of Bay's injury, but he "may be out quite a while" according to general manager Sandy Alderson. Bay was examined by a specialist Monday and will be evaluated again today. There should be more clarity after he goes undergoes more testing.
Lorenzo Cain resumes rehab assignment 06-19-2012
Lorenzo Cain CF KC
Lorenzo Cain (hip) resumed his rehab assignment with Double-A Northwest Arkansas on Monday, going 0-for-3. Most importantly though, he didn't feel any pain after the game. Initially he was rehabbing an groin injury when he suffered the hip flexor. He'll likely need a few games to get his timing back, but finally looks like he's on the right track to coming back. If available, now would be a terrific time to stash the talented outfielder.
Guthrie likely to be traded before next start 06-19-2012
Jeremy Guthrie P KC
According to the Denver Post's Troy Renck, ''it would be an upset'' if Jeremy Guthrie makes another appearance with the Rockies.

Denver Post
The Blue Jays have already offered prospect Matt McDade in exchange for Guthrie, but the Rockies reportedly prefer a pitcher or middle infielder. Renck adds that teams have also check in on relievers Rafael Betancourt and Matt Belisle, and expects Marco Scutaro and Jason Giambi to be among several players traded before July's trade deadline.
Fukudome begins rehab assignment 06-19-2012
Kosuke Fukudome LF NYY
Kosuke Fukudome (back) began his rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, going 1-for-2 with a single. He's taken his time and slowly progressed in his rehab, in an effort to avoid re-injury. He'll likely play 2-3 more games at Triple-A, and if all checks out could rejoin the White Sox at some point over the weekend.
Braves release Livan Hernandez 06-19-2012
Livan Hernandez P MLW
Braves released RHP Livan Hernandez. Hernandez was designated for assignment last week, and will evidently attempt to continue his career elsewhere. He'll likely have to settle for a minor league deal and is doubtful to hold any fantasy value.

Alden Gonzalez on Twitter

Chris Getz 2B KC
Chris Getz (lateral strain) is expected to be activated from the disabled list when first eligible.

Royals.mlb.com
The injury isn't a major concern, but the Royals couldn't wait for him to get healthy, so he went back on the DL just five days after coming off it. Yuniesky Betancourt will continue to get regular playing time at second base in his absence.

Matt Cain notches eighth straight win 06-19-2012
Matt Cain P SF
Matt Cain labored through five innings Monday against the Angels, but he still got a win after allowing three runs and six hits. The bullpen pitched four hitless innings after Cain left, giving the Giants a 5-3 win. Cain struck out four and walked four in his first outing since his perfect game. But even though he wasn't nearly at his best in this one, he still won his eighth straight start.

Ryan Theriot 2B SF
Ryan Theriot went 3-for-5, drove in two runs and stole a base Monday against the Angels. It was his second straight three-hit game, raising his average from .250 to .275. Theriot is a weak option as a regular second baseman at this point of his career, but the Giants seem to like what he offers. He'll remain a fixture for a few more weeks at least.
Matt Harrison earns win over Padres 06-19-2012
Matt Harrison P TEX
Matt Harrison pitched six innings and allowed one run in a win over the Padres on Monday. Harrison allowed a run for the first time in three starts, but he did string together his sixth straight quality start and fifth straight win. What's really impressive is that the Rangers have won each of his last six starts, even though they've scored a total of 22 runs in those games. They've averaged 7.3 runs in their other 35 wins.
Jason Marquis strikes out 10 in loss 06-19-2012
Jason Marquis P SD
Jason Marquis struck out 10 on Monday, but he still took a loss after giving up two runs in seven innings against the Rangers. The Twins have to be wondering where the heck this was a month ago. Marquis had 12 strikeouts in seven starts for Minnesota. He now has 20 in three starts for San Diego. It was Marquis' first 10-strikeout game since Aug. 3, 2001, when he fanned 13 Brewers.

Aaron Hill 2B ARZ
Aaron Hill hit for the cycle Monday as the Diamondbacks routed the Mariners 7-1. Hill singled in the first, tripled in the third, doubled in the fifth and then homered in the eighth to pull it off. Only two weeks ago, he went into his last at-bat needing a double for the cycle, but he couldn't get it done then. He's the second player to hit for the cycle this season, joining the Mets' Scott Hairston.

Hector Noesi gives up six run in loss 06-19-2012
Hector Noesi P SEA
Hector Noesi gave up six runs -- five earned -- in six innings Monday in a loss to the Diamondbacks. It's no longer amusing to point out how nice Noesi's WHIP is when he keeps giving up plenty of runs and racking up losses. He hasn't won since May 6, and his ERA currently stands at 5.69. The Mariners will likely run out of patience if he doesn't improve by the All-Star break.
