The Fastbreak: Top 50

In last week's edition of "The Fast Break" we took a look at how players ranked in the early going using the standard rotisserie settings in a nine-category league. In this week's edition, we will take a look at how the top-50 stack up in the CDM games found at Fanball.com. It's not too late to sign up, as the deadline closes November 30th and they take the top 20 out of 25 weeks to determine the winner.

The CDM free fantasy basketball league uses a point based scoring system that awards points based on the following totals:

Two-point field goal- 2 points
Three-point field goal - 3 points
Free Throw Made- 1 point
Assist - 1 point
Rebound- 1 point
Steals- 2 points
Blocks- 2 points

Now let's take a look at how the top-10 stack up at each position, along with their corresponding salary values at Fanball to see where the true deals are being found. The PPG total is the player's average point totals per game based on the above scoring format. The players are ranked according to their per game production and not their total number of points, so Brad Miller makes the list despite playing in a limited number of games.

*All point totals and rankings are prior to any games on Thursday, November 13.

POINT GUARD

1. - Chris Paul - New Orleans Hornets ($5,650) PPG avg.- 46.43
Paul is far above the rest of the point guard, class regardless of the format.

2. - Tony Parker - San Antonio Spurs ($4,240) PPG avg-37
Parker was off to the type of start that you see in a career year, but now he is injured and will be on the shelf for the next month. The depleted Spurs are just trying to hold down the fort.

3.- Jason Kidd - Dallas Mavericks ($4,840) PPG avg.- 34
Kidd is playing like he is a young Maverick again and is coming off of a triple-double on Tuesday night. His current shooting percentage is at 47.7 percent, which is well above his 40.2 percent career average. He is likely going through a hot stretch and a 2-for-10 could be on the way soon.

4. - Allen Iverson - Detroit Pistons ($6,510) PPG avg.- 33.17
Iverson owners have to be happy with the move to Detroit, as it gives AI a fresh start and no excuses for not playing hard in a contract year.

5. - T.J. Ford - Indiana Pacers ($2,990) PPG avg.- 31
Ford has exploded over the last three games, averaging 18.3 points, 9.3 assists, eight rebounds, and two steals on 47.8 percent shooting.

6. - Derek Rose - Chicago Bulls ($3,000) PPG avg.- 30.63
The young rookie looks like the real deal and is generating a lot of excitement in Chicago and amongst fantasy owners. If he can somehow manage to get the other young Bulls to play consistently, then everyone would be happy.

7. - Chauncey Billups - Denver Nuggets ($5,000) PPG avg.- 30.40
Billups is in one of the worst shooting slumps of his career with a 28.6 percent field goal percentage over his first five games. This obviously can't last. Look for Billups to go big soon.

8. - Devin Harris - New Jersey Nets ($2,750) PPG avg.- 28.75
Harris was off to a solid start but has now missed three games in a row with a sprained ankle. He is listed as day-to-day.

9. - Baron Davis - Los Angeles Clippers ($5,430) PPG avg.- 28.71
Davis + Mike Dunleavy offense = disaster. Davis is off to a poor start and already voicing his displeasure with the offense. He got inexplicably torched by Beno Udrih on Wednesday night.

10. - Nate Robinson - New York Knicks ($2,630) PPG avg.- 27.5
Nate Robinson + Mike D'antoni offense = big numbers. Nate is a fantasy boon for owners looking for high-powered offense without a high cost. There is no reason to think that he can't continue this production all season.

SHOOTING GUARD

1. - Dwyane Wade- Miami Heat ($5,520) PPG avg.- 50.75
Wade owners could not be happier, as he is off to a fantastic start. He just has to keep getting up when he gets knocked down and he will be a great fantasy player this season.

2. - Joe Johnson, Atlanta Hawks ($5,790) PPG avg.- 37.43
Johnson is off to a spectacular start and there is no reason to think that this won't continue. Look for him to provide even more offense with Josh Smith out for the next two-to-four weeks.

3. - Danny Granger - Indiana Pacers ($4,150) PPG avg.- 37.33
Granger is off to a good start but was scratched on Wednesday with a right quad injury. He is expected to play Friday.

4. - Kobe Bryant - Los Angeles Lakers ($7,400) PPG avg.- 36.71
Kobe is no longer expected to carry the load on the very deep and talented Lakers squad and all of his numbers are down as a result. He is still a great player to own, but he won't produce at previous levels this season unless there are unforeseen injuries.

5. - Stephen Jackson - Golden State Warriors ($4,810) PPG avg.- 36.38
Jackson is the focal point of the entire Golden State offense and should continue to put up numbers all season long. If you are in a league that counts shooting percentage, you may want to sell high, though, before you have to tank the category.

6. - Vince Carter - New Jersey Nets ($6,260) PPG avg.- 33.57
Carter is off to a very nice start for the Nets and should continue to produce at a similar level to last season.

7. - Brandon Roy - Portland Trailblazers ($4,070) PPG avg.- 32.75
Roy continues to provide exceptional leadership and numbers for a third-year player. The Blazers and fantasy owners are very lucky to have him on their squad.

8. - Kevin Durant - Oklahoma City Thunder ($3,240) PPG avg.- 31.71
The Thunder don't have a lot of other options on offense, so Durant will be a good source of production all season long. He missed Wednesday's game with a sore ankle but will likely play on Friday.

9. - Kevin Martin - Sacramento Kings ($3,840) PPG avg.- 31.14
Martin will be out for the next 7-10 days with an ankle injury.

10. - Tracy McGrady - Houston Rockets ($5,030) PPG avg.- 30.63
T-Mac was off to a slow start on Wednesday night but then got hot to put the Suns away. He continues to be an injury waiting to happen, but enjoy the production while he is playing.

SMALL FORWARD

1. - LeBron James- Cleveland Cavaliers ($7,500) PPG avg.- 50.50
LeBron is a must own for the Fanball game and is also treating rotisserie owners very well with a respectable 77.7 percent free throw percentage in the early going.

2. - Carmelo Anthony - Denver Nuggets ($6,390) PPG avg.- 36
Carmelo's numbers are down to start the season, but look for him to get more touches with Allen Iverson no longer in Denver. Once Billups adjusts to the new offense, both players should benefit.

3. - Caron Butler - Washington Wizards ($4,020) PPG avg.- 35.5
Butler will continue to be the primary cog in the Wizards offense until Gilbert Arenas returns, whenever that may be.

4. - Paul Pierce - Boston Celtics ($5,610) PPG avg.- 34.22
Pierce just continues to add to a resume that is hall worthy. He hit the winning jumper against Atlanta on Wednesday night and also passed Bob Cousy for second all-time in free throws made for the Celtics.

5. - Gerald Wallace - Charlotte Hornets ($3,840) PPG avg.- 32
Wallace always provides lots of numbers when healthy, but you just never know what categories they are going to be in. His scoring and assists are down, but his rebounding and steals are up.

6. - Tayshaun Prince - Detroit Pistons ($3,550) PPG avg.- 31.86
Prince has really picked up his production since the Iverson trade, as more of the offense is running through him in a point-forward type of role. Career year in the works?

7. - Rudy Gay - Memphis Grizzlies ($4,860) PPG avg.- 30.78
Rudy likes the home cooking and his numbers will start to rise after six of the first nine
games were on the road. He is a career 46.2 percent shooter at home and a 42.9 percent shooter on the road. O.J. Mayo may also be cutting into his flow, but Gay is shooting more than he did last season and there is nothing to suggest that this is more than a cold streak for Gay as he heads back up to the 45 percent range.

8. - Hedo Turkoglu - Orlando Magic ($4,810) PPG avg.- 30.75
Hedo is already one of the best point-forwards in basketball, as a large portion of the Magic offense goes through him. He should continue to put up good numbers for fantasy owners and fill the stat sheet.

9. - Corey Maggette - Golden State Warriors ($3,570) PPG avg.- 30.75
Different uniform, same designer suites. He has missed the last four games as he continues try and recover from hamstring issues.

10. - Richard Jefferson - Milwaukee Bucks ($4,880) PPG avg.- 29.33
Jefferson is producing right around expectations in the early going. It is encouraging that his rebounds are up to 5.7 this season after being at 4.2 last year and his turnovers are down to 1.8 from 2.4 a year ago. If he continues that type of production, he will be one of the better investments at the small forward position this season.

POWER FORWARD

1. - Tim Duncan - San Antonio Spurs ($6,030) PPG avg.- 40.86
Duncan will be asked to shoulder even more of the load with Tony Parker joining Manu on the sidelines for an extended period of time. This is bad for the Spurs, but it may benefit fantasy owners.

2. - Chris Bosh - Toronto Raptors ($ 5,190) PPG avg.- 40.25
Bosh looks like a man on a mission in the early part of the season and put in another solid performance on Wednesday night with 30 points and 12 rebounds on 10-of-15 shooting.

3. - Amare Stoudemire - Phoenix Suns ($4,540) PPG avg.- 38.22
The Suns offense is sputtering, but Amare is still the top power forward in the game and you want him on your team. He really struggled with the Houston defense on Wednesday night, but so will a lot of players this season.

4. - Carlos Boozer - Utah Jazz ($4,850) PPG avg.- 36.38
One of the most consistent players in all of basketball just keeps producing at a 20-10 clip with great shooting percentages.

5. - Zach Randolph - New York Knicks ($4,290) PPG avg.- 35.5
Randolph is off to a solid start and looking like a great investment after his stock dipped last season.

6. - Dirk Nowitzki - Dallas Mavericks ($6,590) PPG avg.- 35.43
Dirk continues to produce at a high level, but assists and rebounding are taking a noticeable dip in the early going. This is likely a product of having Jason Kidd in the lineup. Kidd should also be leading to easier shot opportunities for Dirk, but so far, he is hitting at only a 43.1 percent clip.

7. - David West - New Orleans Hornets ($4,280) PPG avg.- 32.71
West is off to a solid start, but his shooting percentage is down at 44.7 percent and his turnovers are at an alarming three per game after coughing it up six times against the Lakers on Wednesday. Look for him to fix both of these problems in the near future.

8. - Kevin Garnett - Boston Celtics ($5,720) PPG avg.- 32.56
Garnett continues to sacrifice his stats in order to be the team player that holds the Celtics together. Good for the Celtics, bad for fantasy owners.

9. - LaMarcus Aldridge - Portland Trailblazers ($3,540) PPG avg.- 32.38
The third-year big man was the main beneficiary with Greg Oden out, but he's likely to see his shots and rebound opportunities decrease slightly with the big fella in there.

10. - Pau Gasol - Los Angeles Lakers ($4,640) PPG avg.- 31.86
Much like Garnett, Gasol is being asked to be more of a team player on the deep Lakers squad and it is hurting his overall fantasy value.

CENTER

1. - Dwight Howard - Orlando Magic ($5,980) PPG avg.- 51.13
The Fanball format is tailored to Howard and he is a must own. He is coming off of a wreaking ball performance on Wednesday night against Oklahoma City with 30 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocks to record his first ever triple-double. He is currently the No. 1 overall player in most formats that don't count free throw shooting.

2. - Al Jefferson - Minnesota Timberwolves ($4,590) PPG avg.- 40.43
Jefferson continues to improve and is looking like a franchise cornerstone at only 23 years of age.

3. - Andris Biedrins - Golden State Warriors ($2,910) PPG avg.-38
Biedrins is one of the early breakouts on the fantasy season and is second only to Howard in rebounds at 14.3 per game. There is no reason to think that this production will not continue, as Don Nelson has very limited options on a thin Golden State squad.

4. - Nene Hilario - Denver Nuggets ($1,480) PPG avg.- 32.71
Nene is looking like a fantasy savior this season, as he is providing huge production at a very low price. The talent has always been there, but he just needs to stay healthy.

5. - Yao Ming - Houston Rockets ($4,250) PPG avg.- 31.88
Ming is producing numbers, but there are some alarming trends, as his numbers are down from previous career averages despite a very solid 35 minutes a game.

6. - Brad Miller - Sacramento Kings ($3,800) PPG avg.- 31.5
The Kings missed Miller a great deal and have won three out of four upon his return. He has three double-doubles in his four games and is averaging 5.8 assists.

7. - Chris Kaman - Los Angeles Clippers ($3,600) PPG avg.- 29.5
Trade rumors surround Kaman and he could probably use a change of scenery, but then again, so could the entire Clippers team.

8. - Al Horford - Atlanta Hawks ($2,380) PPG avg.- 29
Horford looks consistently inconsistent in the early going, as his numbers are similar to last years, but he has had big games mixed with poor games. One exciting trend for owners is the 13 blocks over the last three games with Josh Smith out. Owners will be very happy if that continues.

9. - Rasheed Wallace - Detroit Pistons ($4280) PPG avg.- 28.71
Wallace continues to fill every category, but he needs to improve on his 39.7 percent shooting for a center.

10. - Andrew Bynum - Los Angeles Lakers ($1,720) PPG avg.- 28.14
Bynum is an exciting young big man, but he will likely continue to be one of the last options on the Lakers. Enjoy the blocks and the solid rebound numbers and look for that shooting percentage (45.8 percent) to rise closer to the 63.6 percent number that he put up last season.
